This week's news that Prema Racing will be joining the INDYCAR grid in 2025 is a timely boost for the series, after what has been a challenging start to the year. After recording its highest viewership figures since 2011 across last season, the opening round of 2024 at St Petersburg saw a drop in audience, with matters not helped by the mixed reviews (if we're being generous) of the rather curious non-championship Thermal Club $1m Challenge that followed. In addition, there is some division beginning to appear amongst team owners in the paddock, with Michael Andretti recently calling on Roger Penske to sell the series if he is unwilling to invest. Disagreements spilling out into the public will only harm the image of the championship, at a time when they have a real opportunity to highlight all the positives that the series offers - particularly the competitive nature of the racing. Prema's pedigree is incredibly strong, having been a mainstay of the Formula 1 support series for many years and providing the stepping stone for the F1 careers of Charles Leclerc, Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon, amongst others. Away from single seaters, they are also working in close collaboration with the Iron Lynx Lamborghini entry in the FIA World Endurance Championship, having previously competed in the LMP2 category. The fact that Prema, one of most well respected and established European teams, are joining the IndyCar field demonstrates the potential that they clearly see in the series, and with the flagship Indy 500 only six weeks away, the championship will be hoping this can build some more positive momentum. #indycar #prema #motorsport #racing #sportsbiz

New Aston Martin Vantage Gets A Sexy GT3 Racing Twin https://lnkd.in/ehNX8ueb Ahead of revealing its 2024 Formula 1 contender later tonight, Aston Martin has unveiled a new Vantage sports car and this: the new Aston Martin Vantage GT3. This is not a roadgoing alternative to the Porsche 911 GT3; it's a dedicated race car for customer racing in GT3 classes at the FIA World Endurance Championship, IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, and the Fanatec GT World Challenge, among others. As the first product of a collaboration between Aston Martin Racing and Aston Martin Performance Technologies (AMPT) - which has already collaborated on the Valhalla supercar - it breaks new ground for the automaker, which has seen substantial investment in recent years and a resurgence in motorsport, partially buoyed by its Formula 1 involvement. As Adam Carter, Aston Martin's Head of Endurance Motorsport, explains, "The new GT3 is our first opportunity to use AMPT to play a role in leveraging the capabilities, attitude and methodologies of all of Aston Martin's various nerve centers, which we've then combined with the unrivaled GT program management expertise of AMR."
