Client Spotlight: Last Chance for Animals On December 12th, 2023, the "Special Bill for the End of Dog Meat Consumption" successfully passed the Ag Sub-Committee of the South Korean National Assembly. This marks a crucial initial stride towards legislating the end of the South Korean dog meat trade and industry. The "Special Bill for the End of Dog Meat Consumption" sets the goal of ending dog meat consumption by 2027 (three years from the enforcement date). It outlines the state's responsibility in formulating and executing the necessary policies to achieve this objective. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs must establish a "Basic Plan for Ending Dog Meat Consumption" that includes 1) matters related to the closure and transition of dog meat farms and 2) measures for the protection and management of dogs relinquished by dog farm owners. Last but not least, it will prohibit the raising, slaughtering and selling of dogs for human consumption. Distribution of forage seeds, cutting, and seedlings for selected 540 households, 50 per household. In the last summer farming season, the project distributed 6.3 quintals of cowpeas to 166 households (153 men and 13 women). 🌿🌱 All the distributed seeds were planted by all the smallholder farmers and the performance of the forage seed was very good as observed during field monitoring visits. The world most know and reputable newspapers are publishing numerous articles about Ukrainian small farmers who suffer from war. One of such article appeared in the French Le Figaro, highlighting the family farms in Ukraine, their losses, their willingness and dedication to rebuild and to keep on working despite devastating effects of the missiles, occupation or passages of troops. Farmers cannot plant or harvest crops in time, part of the harvest is being burned in the fields or in the storage warehouses because of the rockets heavy spraying, machinery is destroyed or stolen to pieces and parts (please find below the link to the full article). The farmers are crying and desperately asking for help, claiming that, after all, farmers feed the world. A fact that is tough to argue, isn’t it?..
