Google, I am Vijay Jeyaraj, a data analyst, and I'd like to share one thing, Google Pay is one of the largest digital payment apps, but many users still use other money management apps to track their spending. These apps often require users to manually enter their expenses. Why not add a feature to Google Pay that shows users their spending habits? By leveraging existing transaction histories and optimizing data storage structures for visualization, you could use that data to create visual reports for users. This would make it easier for them to see how they spend their money without needing another app. Adding this feature could increase how often people use Google Pay and attract new users. Some other payment apps already have this feature, so it would be great for Google Pay to offer it too. Google, If you are already in working progress, looking forward to that!! Just an idea. I’d love to hear what you think. All other feedback or suggestions are welcome, so I can know how this can be approached and whether this is a useful idea. 🙂

💔 My First Job as a Product Manager Could Have Been at Google, But "Overwhelmingness" Killed It --> My story below ⬇ ❓ PS: I was asked the most basic question [literally PM Interview 101] : 'Design an alarm clock for the blind' and I could NOT answer it. I recently watched an insightful talk by Emily Balcetis on Goal Setting, where she highlighted a critical pitfall: #### Aiming too high too early ##### Her words resonated deeply with me, as they echoed my own experience during my job search journey. Many of us set ambitious goals, especially around New Year, only to abandon them by Valentine's Day. This common pattern often stems from a mismatch between our expectations and the actual pace of our progress. We expect rapid advancement, but when our effort doesn't yield immediate results, we lose motivation. This happened to me initially when I started my job search as a grad student at UC Berkeley. ▶ My first ever interview was with Google, which felt like a huge achievement but also a daunting challenge. In about a week's time, I felt overwhelmed with the amount of preparation needed. I had never before researched the prep required for a product manager role, let alone at Google. It's essential to set realistic, incremental goals that align with our capacity and allow us to celebrate small victories. We need to set sub-goals to reasonably assess our progress and recalibrate our expectations, avoiding the feeling of being overwhelmed. ▶ I spent most of my time daydreaming about what it might be like to work at Google, rather than focusing on the concrete action plan I could take every day leading up to the interview. I second Alan's comments on always be learning and owning your own career. Something I'd share with the next generation is embracing your natural strengths and natural struggles. I so wish The Six Types of Working Genius assessment would have existed when I was starting my own career. It helped me as a more "seasoned" (aka older) professional put words and logic to the way my brain works. Rather than feel guilty for what I'm NOT, I am super clear on what I AM. I'm better equipped to communicate, collaborate, and ENJOY my work. And now, there is a student version. Score!! Everyone needs a job. And for the job, you need skills and experience. The question is, how do you gain those skills and experience? To clearly understand what the selection process was like and figure out the gap between where I was and where I needed to be. I looked at the profile of professionals who had made it to tech giants like Google, Amazon, and more. It emphasized one thing: the importance of focusing on fundamentals. No matter your background, if you work hard on your tech skills (related to the role), and problem-solving skills and gain practical experience through projects, you can crack any top tech company. I took that advice seriously. I worked on my skills and gained experience. It wasn’t an easy or quick process. It took months of dedicated effort, with some failures along the way, but eventually, I did it– landed a role at Google . If you're considering a career shift, here's a simple piece of advice: have faith in the process. Doubts might surface occasionally, but with determination, you'll find the way forward.
