🚀 Fall Semester Wrap Up: Fresh off my first semester at New York University, I'm buzzing with excitement! From diving into algorithms to optimizing operating systems, it's been a whirlwind of code, challenges, and (of course) VibeCheck (more on that later!). Here are some highlights: 📚 Design & Analysis of Algorithms: This course, guided by Professor Linda S., cracked open the black box of algorithms. It taught me how to dissect, prove, and choose the right ones for the job. It's all about understanding not just what an algorithm does but why it does it. 💻 Software Engineering: This hands-on class was like an internship! Building VibeCheck alongside my squad and Professor Gennadiy Civil was an electrifying journey. We tackled the full software development life cycle, embracing all the Scrum practices, CI/CD and version control magic. ⚙️ Operating System: Professor Kamen Yotov transformed this course into a practical playground. We weren't just learning about OS concepts; we were working on them! My teammate and I did some kernel-level additions for the XV6 system. In our final project, we optimized file I/O through block size tweaks, multithreading, and strategic system calls. Conquering that final project stretched our limits, but the sense of accomplishment was truly epic. 🚀 Spring Semester Blastoff: My thirst for knowledge hasn't dulled! This semester, I'm deep-diving into database systems, data science foundations, and the fascinating world of information security and privacy. Can't wait to blend my software engineering chops with the power of data science! 🚀 Summer Plans: Beyond academics, gearing up for a transformative summer internship to apply my NYU learnings in the tech realm. NYC's vibrant life has been a bonus level, enriching my personal and professional journey. 🚀 Thrilled to Announce My Summer Adventures! 🚀 This summer, I'm diving headfirst into two amazing roles: a Software Engineering Internship at Tatem and a part-time gig as an API Integration Developer at Berkeley IT. Balancing these opportunities with my studies at UC Berkeley has been a wild ride. The transition from the structured world of academia to the fast-paced, agile environment of professional software engineering has been eye-opening. In school, it's all about theories and controlled exercises, but in the real world, it's about adapting, collaborating, and solving complex problems on the fly. Some key takeaways from this journey so far: 🤝 Collaboration is key: I've learned that working with a team and leveraging everyone's expertise leads to innovative solutions and faster project completion. 🧠 Growth mindset: Being open to new ideas and adaptable to different approaches is essential. Clinging to a single solution can be a roadblock in this field. ❓ Asking the right questions: I've realized the importance of seeking help and tapping into my colleagues' expertise. Knowing when and what to ask can lead to faster, more effective solutions. 💡 Real-world learning: Every day is a new challenge, from algorithms to debugging, and I'm loving the hands-on experience and practical knowledge I'm gaining. Balancing late-night coding sessions with early morning lectures has been tough, but incredibly rewarding. A huge shoutout to Abraham Kwok, Enoch Tseng, and Cesar Gamez for their support and mentorship. Looking forward to a summer filled with learning, growth, and impactful contributions.
