Happy Teacher’s Day! 🎓 Today is a special day, not just for celebrating teachers, but for reflecting on the incredible journey that has shaped me. In my career in law, I’ve learned that teachers come in many forms, and often, life itself becomes the greatest teacher. - Lessons from Legal Challenges: Every case I’ve worked on has offered valuable lessons. Each courtroom experience, whether victorious or challenging, has taught me about strategy, resilience, and humility. The legal field has continuously pushed me to refine my skills and adapt, reinforcing that learning is an ongoing process. - Life’s Unseen Teachers: Beyond textbooks and legal precedents, clients, colleagues, and courtroom scenarios have imparted lessons that are equally important. From clients, I’ve learned empathy and the significance of understanding diverse perspectives. Opponents have taught me patience and the art of strategic thinking. These life lessons have underscored that law is as much about humanity and adaptability as it is about regulations. - My Juniors as Teachers: I’ve been fortunate to work alongside enthusiastic juniors who, while I mentor them, also serve as my teachers. Their fresh ideas, creativity, and willingness to question the status quo have taught me the value of remaining open-minded and innovative. Today, my team and juniors surprised me with a heartfelt celebration for Teacher’s Day. Their thoughtfulness and the effort they put into making this day special for me have left me deeply touched and overwhelmed. It’s moments like these that remind me of the strong, supportive community we have built together. In law, learning never stops, and I am thankful for everyone—mentors, colleagues, juniors, and even the challenges—that have played a role in shaping my journey. Happy Teacher’s Day to all the wonderful teachers out there, in every form. #HappyTeachersDay #TeachersDay #Gratitude #LearningNeverStops #LegalJourney #Mentorship #LawLife #Growth #ThankYouTeachers #WisdomFromEverywhere #FeelingBlessed

My first experience as a Mock Witness. I remember clearly that day. We were using the faculty basement and the rain started so we had to go upstairs due to the breeze. I was just there to see, then, my mentor told me to appear as a witness. I was tensed, I already prepared a story for the witness but I was not planning to be one nor tryout as one. I was so tensed that day and I started asking questions. It was finally time for those trying out as witnesses to begin. I was asked to go first. I tried, gave it my all despite being a first timer. Though, I was prepared but seems not enough. Only if you understand how OAU Moot and Mock Committee can be when it comes to trainings for competition. Such wonderful senior colleagues in the committee. Cutting the chase, it didn't turn out well as my story had a lot of loopholes. Deep down, I was sad a bit and I felt embarrassed. Why? I've attended almost all meetings, I've seen people do this a lot in my presence, in fact I've always been there for cross examinations and I always had a question although I don't always say it. But now that I was to do it, I did not do it well. A senior colleague then asked me why my story was like that and told me to come prepared the next day. Why am I saying this? That day I realized that practice actually makes perfection. I knew how it went, I could even come up with a story and I was cross examining it myself, but to say it is the problem. Why? It's because I've not tried it before, I've not practiced it at all. Do not hesitate to practice what you've learnt. Don't just rely on the theory. After that day, I tried out again as a witness. Although, I was not picked, it's still part of the learning. Do not be scared to try, and after trying and it doesn't work out, try it again and again until it does. I'm Muhideen Mistura, a 200-level law student of Obafemi Awolowo University. #20dayslinkedinchallenge #Personalgrowth

“If they don’t give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair” Yesterday I, alongside many other aspiring lawyers, had the honour of attending the City Century and Young Professionals event in the QEII centre. The day contained many opportunities to gain insights into the legal community from inspiring professionals. Before the event, I’d never even heard of a solicitor apprenticeship yet after I felt as though I had been given invaluable knowledge about an amazing pathway into the legal profession. Throughout the entire event - from Paul Lewis’ advice on giving every opportunity application, dedication and hustle to Amy Marren MBE PLY’s closing speech in conjunction with the brilliant The 93% Club - one key theme resonated with me: the importance of self confidence and giving things your all. It’s something that I have personally had to work on and engrain into my ethos at every turn of my journey, and to me it felt like the core message that underscored the event. I feel that this can be summed up in a quote shared by Elizabeth Ajai-Ajagbe: “80% of success is showing up”. The speakers we heard and glimpses into the professional world we saw all highlighted how vital it is to grasp opportunities and simply show up, even if you’re scared. On top of these motivational undertones, the event allowed us to meet with 40+ of the biggest city law firms and learn the importance of learning and networking early. In my opinion, Idin Sabahipour’s insight on commercial awareness was particularly interesting and I would highly recommend giving LittleLaw a follow! The law firms that attended were incredibly helpful with answering questions we had during a networking break. Finally I want to give Patrick McCann and Joanna Hughes a huge thank you for organising this event: it not only introduced many of us to new ways into law but also gave us amazing opportunities to grow our self confidence, network and develop the skills we need to be successful solicitors. #youngprofessionals #citycentury #solicitorapprenticeship #law

As employers we can often get mixed up with the point of providing work experience. 🧑🏫Yes, sure, it’s to provide a meaningful encounter in the workplace that involves opportunities to directly converse with professionals in roles that young people may aspire to, as well as to find out what a career in that job really entails. ✏️Not to mention the development of employability skills and the chance to step outside their comfort zone to try something new. 💡It can even be used as a means for a young person to decide actually this isn’t the career path for them (equally valuable to confirming it IS the right path btw). However, we also need to remember that we as employers LEARN SO MUCH from our future talent. They bring great insights we just don’t have the angle to see from and in most cases are very willing to share it with us. We just need to be open to it! I’m looking forward to what I’m going to learn this week from our students (just as much as I hope they are looking forward to learning from us!) After all, it’s a two-way process and we never stop learning 😊 #workexperience #equitydiversityinclusion #earlytalent #legalcareers
Today we are delighted to welcome 12 talented students onto our work experience programme in conjunction with our firm’s PRIME COMMITMENT initiative. Committed to increasing access to and socio-economic diversity within the legal profession, our work with PRIME allows us to provide valuable work experience opportunities for young people interested in a career in law. As part of the programme, they will benefit from networking with our legal teams, spending 1:1 time with a solicitor to really get an insight into what it’s like on a day-to-day basis, partaking in legal challenge activities, and developing their soft skills through public speaking and presentations. On top of that, we will equip them with knowledge of the various routes into law, as well as try out a mock assessment centre task to really demystify our application process.
