EVP Partnerships and Enterprise Strategy

I join day two of the APEC "Closing the Digital Skills Gap" Forum in Seattle along with hundreds of leaders from Government, Academia, and Industry. 16 Economies are represented from around Asia Pacific. Experts are talking about the needs and opportunities to collaborate to develop workforce solutions to raise the tide across all constituents. Examples have been provided of programs being developed and implemented in the various countries and regions. We have discussed everything from K-12 thru University, the need for collaboration from Industry. The value of various credentials, micro credential and standards for the issuance. Engagement of Employers in the development of curriculum, , apprenticeships, internships for experiential learning, and to help develop a talent pipeline for their future workforce supply. We discussed the fact that most jobs don't require STEM degrees, how many people can join the workforce with several months training versus years. How we need to encourage people of all backgrounds to join the Digital workforce at an early age, by creating programs in the K-12 segment. Support from Government is needed to help fund the incremental training, reskilling and upskilling to enable people to become contributing members of the community. Support from Mentors to help give back and help guide young people through the maze of challenges along the way. My compliments to Christopher Watson of DOL and Ambassador Matt Murphy, all the participants, the support staff for bringing such an outstanding event to Seattle and providing the opportunity for us all to participate, share and learn. #APECDigitalMonth #MindtheDigitalSkillsGap #comptia #apec
