Sometimes we're conscious of self-sabotage – which makes it easier to address. Other times, it is so normal to us that it's invisible, occurring without us even noticing. One of my major life journeys is to cut back on self-sabotage, especially negative self-talk and imposter syndrome. In honesty, it's still a work in progress. I've developed a short mantra that I repeat when I'm out for a run and feel like stopping: "My future lifespan and healthspan are far more important than my comfort in this fleeting moment." For me, it's not about being able to run a marathon or break speed records. But each time I push myself to run even just a minute longer than I feel like running, I'm training myself to overcome obstacles. I'm proving to myself that I can do hard things. If I desperately want to stop running after 17 minutes, but I make it to 18, enduring that extra minute of discomfort is something to celebrate. (Even if I set out to run for 30 minutes!) When you embrace and overcome even a relatively small amount of discomfort, I've found that there's a snowball effect. It's like a muscle that gets stronger with practice. It can even develop into a habit. And interestingly, the strengthening of this muscle is transferrable to other areas of life, helping you tackle challenging situations with greater #courage and confidence. I agree 💯 with Nir Eyal's post. Growth and #PersonalDevelopment happen when you give yourself a push beyond your comfort zone.
