Today marks the 80th Anniversary of D-Day or Operation Neptune—the largest seaborne invasion in recorded history. Allied forces suffered around 5,000 casualties and another 5,000 wounded in this attack. My Grandfather was a Marine and served in WWII. Visiting Normandy has always been on my list. So when I heard about an 80km Ruck in honor of the 80th anniversary l from GORUCK I knew I had to go (shout out to Jeff Byers ) It was beyond special to be on that land that is largely untouched and get a bit uncomfortable physically to remember and honor those who gave their lives so we could enjoy the freedoms we have today. The world would be a much different place had the brave men and women of the allied forces and others not stood up to a maniacal dictator. Being there was special but having this experience with two people I admire, respect and love made it that much more special. My nephew Connor Checketts came and captured the entire experience and Tracy Farr my friend and brother who did the entire thing just a week after a 30mile tough Mudder. There’s more to come on the experience including the product testing we did while there but I’ll summarize for now and just say it was really such a privilege. Thank you 🫡 to all those who continue to serve so we can sleep peacefully at night. As divided, complicated and imperfect as our country may be —I remain proud to be an American 🇺🇸 and will continue to believe in the responsibilities we have for the liberty our nations founders created for us.
This is incredibly moving. Your experience honoring those who served is inspiring. The D-Day Ruck is a powerful way to remember and appreciate their sacrifices. Thank you for sharing your story.
Nate, What an amazing way to celebrate these brave heroes and your Grandfather. We don't take enough time to raise up or celebrate the selfless Americans who put themselves on the line for this country then and continue to do so today. Thank you for sharing your experience, I can't wait to see more.
So awesome 👏 I posted recently my Grandpa was there at Utah Beach on D-Day. Would absolutely love to visit there one day.
