Preventing Firefighter Disorientation: According to the United States Fire Administration 18.2% of all firefighter injuries are occur from being trapped, caught, or lost. The USFA also points out that as of 2017, only 70% of all US Fire Departments had one thermal imaging camera. This data doesn’t include the type or age of TIC in use but does point to a repeated issue faced by the fire service. The issue is known as limited visibility Many great trainings are being conducted across the United States that help prepare firefighters for this problem. However, these trainings need to be offered across the board to all and provide secondary means of orientation devices that can assist with regaining orientation when these incidents occur. We have completed several free educational webinars on this topic that you can view here: The value of a situational awareness TIC: https://lnkd.in/gveeTYij Enhancing Rapid Intervention Efforts: https://lnkd.in/eU25YVPC Preventing Firefighter Disorientation Webinar: https://lnkd.in/es2Wjtee

Have you ever been lost or disoriented in a fire? Check out our webinar: Preventing Firefighter Disorientation- The “U.S. Firefighter Disorientation Study 1979-2001” defines firefighter disorientation as “the loss of direction due to the lack of vision in a structure fire.” In fact, according to the report: “Analysis of Structural Firefighter Fatality Database 2007”, over a 16-year time span, 1990-2006, enclosed structures, which have an insufficient number of windows and doors, were found to take the lives of firefighters at a disproportionate rate of 77 percent when compared to structures with an opened design. The purpose of this article is to expound upon this work of William Mora and enlighten firefighters to the fact that firefighter disorientation is still a huge problem today!
