Exciting exchanges with an ever-expanding community At the beginning of December, Andrea and Simon attended the 2024 Fall Meeting & Exhibit of the Materials Research Society in Boston, the leading international gathering of materials researchers. They were delighted to see that interest in NV scanning microscopy continues to grow. In particular, the range of applications is expanding, and visitors to the QZabre booth were clearly impressed by the ability of our QSM to move beyond conventional magnetism and into the realms of spin-wave imaging, NMR and FMR sensing. Many discussions made it clear that the broader magnetism community and the NV-sensing community are moving ever closer together. This trend was also evident in many of the talks in the scientific programme, not least in the symposium "Diamond Functional Devices – From Material to Applications," which QZabre was proud to co-sponsor. Our HiCATT intensifier was integral to a recent study that introduced a novel method for measuring velocities in high-enthalpy hypersonic flows using Nitric-oxide ionization induced Flow Tagging and Imaging (NiiFTI). Conducted at Texas A&M University, the research focused on Mach 8.5 and Mach 10 flows. The HiCATT, paired with a Shimadzu HPV-X2 camera, enabled the capture of high-speed fluorescence data at 100 kHz, allowing for precise, single-shot velocity measurements up to 2.5 km/s in challenging, high-temperature environments.
