I was honored to represent the Bloomberg Center for Government Excellence alongside my colleague Mary Conway Vaughan at the Ensuring Responsible AI Roundtable hosted by the IBM Center for The Business of Government in collaboration with NFBPA National. This incredible event brought together government leaders, scholars, data scientists, and grassroots organizers to explore how we can leverage AI responsibly in the public sector while addressing the risks and challenges. Two key themes emerged from our discussions: 1) The crucial role of intergovernmental collaboration—across local, state, and federal levels—in both governing and utilizing AI. 2) The fundamental importance of performance management practices, particularly strong data management strategies, in ensuring effective AI applications at the local government level - which is core to the GovEx mission.
