Technology Alliance put together a great and unique event focusing on what #corporateventure needs to know about #ai as part of #seattleaiweek. It was great to hear from Laura Ruderman, University of Washington, Amazon, Microsoft, and many others. (https://lnkd.in/gcVT7S6d) Some key takeaways: - AI had gotten really good at smaller, distinct tasks, but not yet for ambiguous or open-ended projects. To effectively benefit from AI for larger tasks, one needs to think through agent orchestration. - From an investor perspective, it is easier to build a good demo or MVP; harder to build a robust system that addresses real objectives. Following up on my recent post where I connected with my longtime colleague Yung Wallace, I wanted to spend a few minutes highlighting the Symphony AI and Microsoft Industrial AI Summit held on January 23rd here in Houston. I have been a follower of Symphony AI (SAI) since my time with LNS Research. They became an LNS client shortly after acquiring Savigent in the Manufacturing Operations Management (MOM) space and sometime later, with a steer from LNS, acquired Proceedix in the Connected Frontline Worker (CFW) space. Since leaving LNS in July of 2022, I must say that in catching up with their progress, they’ve made leaps and bounds in all three products, now uniquely named “Co-Pilots.” So, we have: ·        Plant Performance Copilot, which was always one of the leading AI/ML platforms – designed for engineers, yet powerful and easy to use. And now updated with a knowledge graph for powerful contextualization and the ability to scan and read P&IDs to incorporate tag data. SAI is now among a handful of vendors who can do this. Clients in the audience, be they operating companies or EPCs, were very receptive to this capability. ·        Connected Worker Copilot, where Proceedix’s capabilities have been expanded. ·        Digital Manufacturing Copilot, which is a re-architecture of the original Savigent product, now with composable apps, versus its previous more monolithic and on-premise-only footprint. Now the big news and the reason for the name “Co-pilots” is that SAI has infused Generative AI with large language models (LLMs) across all three products. The GenAI provides streamlined workflow efficiencies and superior insights. As most readers who follow this space know, there are very few vendors who have successfully applied GenAI in the industrial software space, so kudos to SAI. Of course, all the products remain open and modular, so one can implement them individually, together, or with other products. I will sum up here by saying that if you haven't taken a look at SAI, you certainly should. Their ability to innovate at speed to provide superior functionality separates them from most of the crowd.
