The London Borough of Newham's People Powered Places program resulted in funding for 157 community initiatives when residents were asked how they would like to see public funding used to improve life in their borough. With a budget of 1.6 million GBP, residents recommended projects including green spaces and a mini lending library, among many other community-focused projects. Using Go Vocal's digital engagement platform, residents were able to put forward proposals, vote on fellow residents' suggestions and have their say on how the budget would be spent. #GoVocal #CommunityEngagement #GovTech

As rural communities navigate the path toward digital equity, they should not have to walk alone. Businesses and governments have a critical role to play in bringing broadband access to these areas. It will take partnerships, innovative funding models, community engagement, and policy change. #RuralBroadband #DigitalEquity #Partnerships #DigitalDivide

Today's APPG on Left Behind Neighbourhoods report on the UK Shared Prosperity Fund is an important contribution to thinking about where next on Levelling Up. It highlights both the potential of the Fund to address place-based disadvantage and some great examples of good practice, but also the need for elements to be rethought, if it is to have the most impact. Key recommendations include: - more effective targeting at our most ‘left behind’ neighbourhoods - longer term commitment of funding - ring-fenced provision for community capacity-building - properly embedded community involvement and control. https://lnkd.in/eR3zP_Dd

The most effective solutions for addressing community harm often come from the residents and organizations within the community. However, decades of community disinvestment have resulted in limited access to the capital and resources required to support the programs that community experts suggest. Hence, the birth of ICJIA's Institute to Innovate (i2i). Executive Director Delrice Adams (#JusticeWarrior) views i2i as a social work approach involving intensive engagement. i2i focuses on supporting hyper-local grassroots organizations with little to no prior experience with grant funding and needs more infrastructure or back office to implement programs successfully. Like the work of #JusticeWarriors in Pennsylvania, i2i is a community-centered initiative. https://i2i.illinois.gov/ ##throwback #thursday

Another very tough read... Councils are being forced to make impossible decisions in the face of huge budget shortfalls. Hampshire are even having to consider ending all support services for the homeless next year. Since 2010 we've lost •1,243 youth centres •1,168 childrens centres •1,376 libraries Something has to change. Providing high-quality & cost-saving tech solutions that actually help our council-workers is more important than ever. #localgov #publicsector #tech #genai
