I doubt if we could complete a project like this in today's regulatory environment. Max Ball (one of my personal favorite geologists) was tasked with finding 10 BCF of gas storage for a proposed gas pipeline for The United Light and Power Service Company of Chicago. From Max Ball "The report is supported by and depends on reports on the storage possibilities of the Austin, Reed City, Winfield, and Lincoln fields, all as of June 30 1944. These four reports on individual fields, together with this report, embody the results of a study in progress since last November, the purpose of which has been the recommendation of suitable Michigan underground storage facilities for the major pipeline project you are considering, a project for a gas line from the Hugoton field in Kansas to the markets served by the United Light and Railways Company and its affiliates in Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, and Michigan." Here is Max Ball's map of the Stray sand at the Austin gas field. I believe Michigan still has more gas storage capcity than any other state in the U.S. Michigan has and I hope will continue to be an important part of the U.S. oil and natural gas industry. #gasstorage #maxball #michiganoilandgas Embrace the laser and See the Fingerprints of the Earth Chuck

As one of the largest natural gas fields in the country, the Marcellus Shale stretches across several states in the northeastern US, including Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio and New York. It's estimated to hold a whopping 97 trillion cubic feet of recoverable natural gas. This massive resource has attracted significant investment and development in recent years.
