If automakers and suppliers can perfect autonomous driving #localization, they can fill in performance gaps of the next generation of autonomous features for vehicles and machinery. GPR's WaveSense leverages ground-penetrating radar to map below the surface, creating a robust and detailed subsurface map that remains unaffected by environmental changes above ground. This unique approach captures the rich, stable data beneath the road, providing a precise, consistent localization solution that bridges the current safety and performance challenges in #autonomousdriving. By focusing on the subterranean landscape, GPR enables autonomous vehicles to operate everywhere that humans can, setting a new standard for the industry.

In the world of automated mobility, scaling up is a challenge. In complex environments, accurate localization is vital, and errors can lead to serious risks. To operate safely, autonomous vehicles need to understand where am I, where do I need to go, and what environmental hazards are around me. Even the most advanced sensors can have limitations in many scenarios. Typical operational areas can include ever changing Rd. surfaces, inclement weather in complex environments. That's where GPRS wave sense technology becomes critical in many autonomy applications. Like traditional localization systems, GPR uses landmarks to provide the position of a vehicle relative to Rd. features like drivable path loading and unloading zones and waypoints. The difference is that GPR detects subterranean landmarks data meters beneath the driving. Surface data that is resilient in adverse weather conditions and that will remain available even in GPS denied areas and reliable in dynamic surface environments. The GPR sensor can be mounted anywhere in the undercarriage of the vehicle, seamlessly integrated into the chassis or even battery packs. The sensor scans this subterranean world extracting unique character rich data to create a detailed map. Wave sense equipped vehicles can match radar returns with previously scanned areas providing real time high accuracy localization. Map creation is fully automated and requires no human guided post processing. Maps can be automatically updated via sophisticated change detection capabilities. GPR provides position confidence regardless of weather conditions. Rd. markings. GPS or dynamic environments. GPR unearthing the future of autonomy.

Most robot taxis are no longer required to have safety drivers, but one remote operator must be assigned for every three vehicles. Data from simulations and early real-world deployments corroborate these findings, but the full impact on safety will only become clear as Governments are developing a regulatory framework for autonomous vehicles that aims to ensure safety while fostering innovation.
