Lawyers, let's see if this rings true to you: You do some task, and have a successful result but then in your mind afterward you manage to come up with many reasons why it wasn't good enough. You got the result you were looking for in court, but convince yourself later you should have gotten it at a lower cost, or in less time, or with a more clever argument or... well, the list goes on. You may apply the same logic to drafting a contract or transferring title to land or any other thing you do as a lawyer. As a group we are very good at sabotaging our own self-worth by redefining "perfect" to always be something better than what we actually did. When (not if) you find yourself doing this to yourself, I hope this clip from the movie "This is Spinal Tap" can help you manage that impulse. Your impulse to ex post facto redefine perfect as something better than what you did is the same as this character's belief that an amp that "goes up to 11" is better than one that only goes up to 10.
