Fantastic to see the NZ government following up on the Prime Ministers visit by having a senior trade diplomat visit. Had an interesting round table discussion on ideas to improve NZ's trade with Malaysia and make better use of the excellent free trade agreements in place. Some ideas raised; - the need to develop the soft skills of NZ exporters to be effective in Asia -to expand the mix of exports beyond the traditional F&B, NZ needs to identify and develop export champions through domestic industrial and procurement policies. -for exports to grow NZ infrastructure needs to grow and needs bi-partisan political buy-in - look to other counties export agencies and learn from wins and losses to develop best practices Malaysia New Zealand Chamber of Commerce Reece Kurta, May Lim, Oliver Woods, Hon Melissa LEE, Ella Nicholls,

ELF Executive Director Ailbhe (Alva) Finn talks about the benefits of enlargement in her opening speech of the EU Meets Balkans Forum: "Enlargement will boost sluggish European growth; we will have a stronger say in global trade negotiations and create an even bigger single market. Opening up the single market to nine more countries with high capital needs will improve trade and investment prospects." Besides the demographic benefits of enlargement and a bigger 'Brussels effect', "The nine candidate countries would contribute with access to critical and strategic raw materials, which will allow European companies to lower dependence on authoritarian countries." Organisers: ELF, ALDE Party and The Atlantic Club of Bulgaria

In the field of economic partnership, the European Union is strengthening relations with Kenya, thus opening up new opportunities not only for Czech companies. On July 1, 2024, the Agreement between the European Union and Kenya on Economic Partnership entered into force. It aims to support mutual cooperation and open up new business opportunities. And that too for Czech companies. The agreement will lead to enhanced legal certainty and stability and will also improve the investment environment. The parties solemnly signed the agreement already on December 18, 2024 as an economic partnership agreement. The parties mutually guaranteed the promotion of trade and the creation of new economic opportunities, while targeted cooperation is intended to strengthen trade and economic development. The agreement will also positively influence further direction and strategic dialogue, which includes a wide range of areas of cooperation between the European Union and the economically important country of Africa, which is Kenya. https://lnkd.in/edgxdjsa

Attending the 2024 Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) dinner in Douala was an enriching experience. Themed ''Defining innovative approach for a better policy coordination towards the promotion of the private sector'', this event brought together a diverse group of legal practitioners, tax and custom officials, government regulators, and the business leaders in CEMAC Member States to discuss the policies shaping the private sector in a bid to drive sustainable economic growth in the sub-region. The three-day event featured insightful sessions on the latest trends, challenges, and innovations in: intra-CEMAC trade, intra-African trade and transportation, the role of financial institutions in private sector development, customs and tax administrations in the promotion of sub-regional integration. Driven by my perpetual curiosity and keen interest in advancing intra-African trade, I engaged in comprehensive colloquial discussions with the Senior Trade Policy Advisor and Regional Director of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) for Cameroon, Gabon & Togo, CHAM Etienne BAMA who shared valuable insights on the CEMAC Customs Union in the context of Regional Economic Integration in Africa, the Import-Substitution concept currently being developed in CEMAC, the interplay with Free Trade Agreements ratified by CEMAC member states, as well as the ongoing and planned export operations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) within the framework of the Guided Trade Initiative at the level of the Cameroon National Shippers' Council (CNSC). In all, it was a valuable platform for learning and reconnecting with esteemed legal practitioners, inhouse corporate counsels, C-Suite Executives, fostering professional growth and collaboration for Africa’s progress. #CEMAC #trade #investment #network #Cameroon #Africa #CWEIC #CNSC #economicdevelopment
