"I think that the prototype AI company that everybody thinks about is the OpenAI or the big foundation model company. And it's true, I don't see much play for seed stage venture anyway in companies like that, that their first funding round might be a $100, $200 million to do something really capital intensive. I've also played around with different development frameworks such as Imba and Astro for building a personal portfolio. Here are some highlights from the speakers this week: Dustin Beadle - Attitude > Skill - You can always learn new skills but attitude is relatively challenging to teach. Logan Havern - B2B > B2C - When building a startup, try to focus on businesses as one sale to a business could be greater than many sales to consumers. Nabeel Alamgir🦄 - Life is hard enough --> Try to make it easier for yourself ie. try to think about the problems you are familiar with, your network and experience, rather than trying to do something totally new. Miguel Acero & Shariar Kabir  - Learn by doing and fail gracefully - The learning you get by going off on your own and starting a business or project is 10X more than most jobs. You will mess up big time, but if you learn from your mistakes the rewards can be huge. My personal takeaway after interacting with other fellows is that there are so many great people out there looking to apply their brilliance. We need more people to start projects, whether they be businesses or other projects, to align all this talent towards the numerous problems we face. I can't wait to see what comes out of our first hackathon tomorrow.

Let me start by saying I'm a HUGE fan of Linear, Karri and the whole team. And a paying customer. But one sentence struck me here: "We've spent a total of 0.5% of revenue on marketing" That's obviously very impressive, but it would even be impressive if they spent double or 10x as much on marketing. So I wonder how you know when it is _too little_ marketing spend? I've seen and know what too much looks like...and I'm not saying every company has to grow at crazy numbers. Linear has always said they don't want to be that. But I wonder how you gauge that - especially in a market where there's such a. dominate player like Jira. Couldn't doubling marketing spend - even as an experiment - answer that? It just seems like 0.5% is so low.

Early Announcing a $5M Seed Round! 🚀 and generated over 35,000 unit tests in the past couple of months for it's users. Building Early has been an ambitious and humbling journey to become the first AI agent for test generation and code quality. Now, it has become a reality, bringing us a step closer to relieving developers of bugs altogether. It’s a big vision, and we know it won’t happen overnight. But with a great team, the support of our amazing VCs, oren zeev and Tal Keinan from Dynamic Loop Capital , my co-founder Lior Froimovich, our top notch employees at the Israeli office and globally, and the thousands of users who trust us, we are quickly realizing our vision. In the past couple of months, our users have generated over 35,000 unit tests, helping them protect their code from bugs, or even better, find bugs. Some of the terms I’ve heard our users saying so far includes: “I literally found a bug while generating tests, and it took me less than five minutes.” “Playing with EarlyAI on one of my open-source projects, and it immediately found bugs!” “It’s too good to be true.” This is just the beginning, and we’re excited for what’s to come. The majority of founders I spoke with last week are deeply self-aware, and are approaching what they’re doing with a ton of prudence. They recognize what’s going on in the world and, equally as importantly, really seem to understand themselves and what they’re trying to do. These conversations proved to be incredibly pleasant experiences. Not one of them acted with arrogance. Things ran smooth. Tough questions were not met with walls going up or turtling. Instead the responses were a healthy mix of: 1.) To address that, we’re doing X/ We specifically require X for us to make faster progress. 2.) I don’t know. 3.) Can you help? 2021 was, to put it mildly, madness in terms of the opposite tendency. Astronomic valuations. Everything on a jpeg. It was bound to burst — and now it feels like there’s a recovery. To that end, I wrote about a cultural shift taking place in venture yesterday. It’s no coincidence. From the startup side we’ve seen vast improvements. Everyone else take notes and apply the same lessons.
