Amidst the tightening of local government budgets (for reasons far too numerous to detail in a brief social media post), the adage "work smarter, not harder" resonates louder than ever. Several years ago, the City of El Cajon City Council presented our staff with a challenge: harness technology as a means to amplify our efforts in delivering exceptional service to the community. Allow me to share just one example of responsible use of technology to safeguard our residents from criminal activities. This showcases our commitment to leveraging innovation as a force multiplier. #SmartGovernment #citymanagement #cityofelcajon #reinventinglocalgovernment
Our automated license plate recognition (ALPR) program continues to be a success. In less than a month we've arrested 23 individuals associated with stolen vehicles in our city. As we continue to see crime increase across this state due to ineffective criminal justice reform legislation, we will continue to seek out innovative technologies to help keep our community safe. Remarkable use of technology. Anything to help our our Police Department gain more success in their pursuit of safety, loss prevention, and justice. Great work in funding, the technology team, police and every department that made this happen!

1yThe Maxwell coursework offered a certificate of advanced study for "electronic Govt"... this is such a broad and critically important field of public service that is a true game changer (from AI, to GIS, body cams, drones, etc.) Great to see the initiative you are leading in EC!
