Grameen Foundation leads access to finance activities on the USAID Uthabiti Activity led by Save the Children International. Uthabiti is building inclusive financial and market systems that enable refugees in Uganda to start businesses and build their own self-reliance. This week, we were thrilled to showcase the work of our longtime partner RUFI, to high-level representatives from USAID Bureau for Resilience, Environment and Food Security; USAID Uganda; and Save the Children International. RUFI is a local South Sudanese/Ugandan cross-border microfinance institution that pioneered lending to refugees in Uganda in 2017. In 2023, RUFI and Uthabiti partnered to increase access to financial services to over 80,000 refugees in Palabek Refugee Settlement by opening the first microfinance branch in the settlement. We are also digitally linking refugee VSLAs to formal financial services at RUFI through Grameen's digital savings group platform LedgerLink. Thank you RUFI, USAID, Save the Children and Uthabiti teams for your partnership, we are proud to work with you! Yesterday, we spotlighted the incredible work of Save the Children and #RuralFinanceInitiative (RUFI) microfinance, enabled by #USAIDSavesLives funding in Palabek Refugee Settlement! 🌍 USAID’s Uthabiti activity established the first microfinance institution in Palabek Refugee settlement and has digitally linked Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), thereby enabling refugees and host communities to gain access to essential financial services that are transforming their lives. This collaboration showcases how private sector engagement and digital tools can foster long-term resilience and financial inclusion. Join us in supporting these life-changing initiatives! #RefugeeResilience #FinancialInclusion #Uthabiti #GrameenFoundation Mwesigwa Bikie Isharaza
