Just completed my first 5k park run! I keep reading posts about stepping outside of your comfort zone. Whether it's a new skill, a new project, or a new run it's good to keep experimenting and challenging ourselves. Every step counts! #GrowthMindset

It's proven that alone time is necessary for personal growth. So, take time for yourself, learn your likes and dislikes, and evolve into the person you want to be. Yesterday, I caught a fish (actually, I caught (and quickly released) two) with my hands. It was at the Herring Run Park (Friends of Herring Run Parks) in Middleborough, Massachusetts. Although I've lived in Massachusetts for most of my 43 years, I didn't know about the Herring Run until yesterday. I'm so glad I learned. If you can't tell, that's authentic joy on my face. I felt extraordinarily...human, reaching into natural running water, picking up a living fish, and then lovingly returning it to where it could keep swimming. The herring have always been there. However, over the centuries, people have changed how and why we do and don't catch, trade, and feed them--to ourselves, the soil, and lobsters. :) Despite these many changes, I was struck by three seemingly constants that made me really happy: 1) There was no admission to this park to take part in this natural occurrence. 2) Herring Run-goers brought their two and four-legged kiddos, and everyone did a really good job of looking out for one another. 3) Most seemed to want nothing more than to be one (or close) with the fish. I didn't see any signs of anyone even slightly interested in hurting. However, there were some, like my son and a few pups, who preferred to admire from a distance. There are so many initiatives and projects, especially at work, that require advanced tools, evolving methods, and sophisticated approaches, all often necessary and essential to optimal performance. I think all of these advancements and changes become the most effective when those who design, implement, and rely on them stay rooted in what makes us uniquely human—when we value and remain curious about our experiences, emotions, and creativity. So, that's my longish endorsement for sticking your hand in a running stream or whatever natural equivalent opportunity comes your way this week. #practicewhatyouteach #getoutside #marathonmonday #optimalenvironment #catchandrelease

Edinburgh's School of Rocks just launched it's 3rd Autumn Term 🎂 3 years on from initial launch and I'm so proud to see that some of the communities have become self-sustaining. There's a lot of chat about starting communities and building communities but less so about sustaining them. It takes a lot of work, time, dedication... and a bit of magic 🦄 It's become clear that the unique thing we do at SoR is coach and develop individuals to start and sustain local communities. We're not talking about sending them on MTB leadership qualifications (although that may come later). We're about spotting those folks who have the enthusiasm, empathy and potentia to lead and facilitating them to build local community. We're questionning what leadership looks, soudns and behaves like in the outdoors. Leaders are real, they feel fear, they fail, they learn and they laugh! We're looking to find some enthusiastic partners who want to join us in this mission. Here are some of the things we can offer: 🕵♀️ Primary market research - women's and off road cycling are among the fastest growing segments in the industry. Get to know the needs and wants of women gravellers via focus groups, questionnaires etc. 🛍 Mystery shopping and store/webstite engagement strategy development - we get asked to help with shop rides but no one wants to ride out of an out of town business park on busy roads at rush hour. This mechanic doesn't work for this market so we came up with some more valuable alternatives 🤳 Social media content creation, branded content and photo shoots with real women riders ✍ Blog writing and web content I'd love to hear more ideas about how our grassroots community can help shape the development of the bike industry based on real business needs and pain points (and available budgets). If you know of someone or can help make connections for us I'm all ears. The downturn of the bike industry has made this increasingly difficult but we are bringing in new riders and fresh ideas at a sustainable scale. No one else is doing this! https://lnkd.in/dtyktmnX
