Fun fact about Cheryl and me. Traveling the country in an RV is on our bucket list. You ever dream of one of those fancy, luxurious recreational vehicles (RVs)? 🚐 Be ready for some potential sticker shock. RVs, like the Foretravel Motorcoach Presidential Series Realm FS605 or the Newmar King Aire, can cost over $1 million. And the real cost of owning an RV goes beyond the initial price tag. Don’t forget insurance, maintenance, fuel, towing equipment, campground fees, and other amenities, like Wi-Fi hotspots or dash cameras. And how often you use it might factor into the cost as well. Using a $60,000 RV for 10 days a year means you're effectively paying $6,000 per day. If you’re not sure you’re going to be a lifelong RV’er, you might consider the pros and cons of renting. As an industry expert in the RV sector, I found the recent article on The Autopian titled "The Big RV Companies Are Making Boring Campers Fun Again And I Love It" to be quite intriguing and reflective of the current trends in the industry. It's exciting to see major RV manufacturers like Forest River and Thor Industries stepping out of their comfort zones and embracing more innovative and entertaining designs for their campers. The mention of Forest River's No Boundaries RV Suite and Thor Industries' Jayco Jay Feather Volare as examples of this shift towards more experimental designs is particularly noteworthy. These new models are breaking away from traditional and mundane RV designs, offering campers exciting features and experiences that were previously unheard of in the industry. 🚧 Almost Ready for the Refit! 🚧 We’re making great progress, but we still haven’t decided what to do with the canopy yet! 😅 However, on the inside, things are coming together nicely, and we can’t wait to show you. The focus of this refit is all about balancing quality products at sensible prices—we’re really pushing to see how much bang for our buck we can get without sacrificing quality. This refit has two main goals: 1️⃣ Refining our setup: After a few years of touring with our first dual-cab ute setup (after years of wagon touring), we reckon we got it about 80% right. Now, with some miles under our belts, it’s time to tweak and fine-tune a few things. For example, the Ontap jerry has been great, giving us 20L of water with a built-in pump, but it takes up too much space. So, we’re swapping it out for a 40L tank behind the drawers, which frees up real estate on top of the drawers and lets us run the water outlet to the rear. Perfect for filling pots from the tailgate! 👌 2️⃣ Testing new gear: We’re replacing our ARB drawers with Newayworks drawers, and for good reason! Newayworks is a new player in the Aussie 4WD drawer scene, and at DC 4X4, we’ve been selling them like hotcakes. With savings of around $1000 compared to ARB drawers and up to $1500 compared to MSA, we wanted to see how they perform in real-world conditions. And what better place to test them than the back of Izzy? So far, we’ve been impressed with the build quality and finish—now it’s time to see how tough they really are. On top of that, we’re upgrading from our trusty AGM dual battery to a Fusion 100Ah lithium. Why? More usable power, less weight, and a mid-range price for high-quality performance. High-Speed Turning Stability: Plumb Bow (Longer Waterline): More Stability: The longer waterline provided by the plumb bow contributes to significantly better stability during high-speed turns. The boat has more surface area in contact with the water, meaning it is less likely to skid or slide sideways. Safer Handling in Rough Seas: The boat’s more predictable handling in sharp turns, especially in rough conditions, makes it ideal for offshore and high-speed operations where safety and control are critical. Raked Bow (Shorter Waterline): More Agility but Less Stability: While the shorter waterline of the raked bow allows for faster, tighter turns, it comes at the cost of stability. The bow tends to rise during turns, reducing the hull’s contact with the water, making the boat more prone to skidding or loss of control at very high speeds.
