There is still a tremendous shortage of Philadelphia schoolteachers. A disproportionate amount of vacancies are within special education classrooms. "There have been more than 400 vacancies reported in each of the last two years, meaning that in any given year, thousands of students could face a revolving door of substitutes during crucial times in their development. And by far, the biggest shortage is among special education teachers. Of the 452 vacancies, about 150 were special ed. That’s one-third of the total." Private Post Secondary Career College Myth 4: Education Quality Is Lower Than Public Institutions Reality: Private career colleges often offer more specialized programs with a focus on practical skills and job readiness. The quality of education can be high, particularly in programs where there is a strong link between the college and employers in the field. Private Post Secondary Colleges are agile in pivoting to program offerings that meet the skills gaps in the current and future workplace. Despite this agility, there is a significant delay in licensing programs by provincial government regulators. In some provinces, not only are the programs subject to licensing but also the college itself. Licensing is a lengthy process (6 months to 1 year) but is an important part of the regulatory oversight of PPCs.
