May is #NationalTraumaAwarenessMonth. At Granite Hills Hospital, we practice trauma-informed care. Trauma-informed care (TIC) is our framework that helps us understand, recognize, and respond to the impact that trauma has on individuals, with an enhanced focus on promoting safety and healing. There are six guiding principles: safety; trust, and transparency; peer support; collaboration; empowerment, voice, and choice; and cultural, historical, and gender issues. Ensuring that the physical and emotional safety of an individual is addressed is the first important step to providing trauma-informed care. When you visit your doctor, do you see the same friendly face each time? Or do you end up repeating your story over and over because appointments are rushed and doctors keep changing? When you can't build a strong bond with your doctor, it's easy for care to slip and things to get missed. Patients feel like they're just another name on a list, and doctors miss out on giving the continuous care we all want. ‼The answer? Focus less on rushing through appointments and more on building trust and connections with patients. Let's slow down, listen, and really examine patients. Let's treat them as individuals, not just cases to be solved quickly. Learn more about how Direct Primary Care at FreedomDoc Batesville can help!
