60 Years of Job Corps! 🎉 Last week, the South Bronx Job Corps Academy held a celebration for Job Corps 60-year anniversary. Job corps is the largest and longest-running residential career training program in the United States. Since its beginning in 1964, it has transformed the lives of over two million young people by equipping them with the academic and vocational skills necessary for meaningful and lasting employment. This program offers career technical skills training in 7 high-growth industries at the South Bronx location, from healthcare to Information Technology, ensuring that young people are prepared to thrive in the nation's fastest-growing sectors. The program’s comprehensive support, including high school completion, career transition assistance, and even housing and healthcare, empowers students to achieve success. We are honored to be part of this incredible program. Here's to 60 years of making a difference and many more to come! 🚀 Special shoutout to the talented students who shared their photos from the event: Marcos Maldanado, Jibril Stanford, and Supreme King. #JobCorps60 #JobCorps #WorkforceDevelopment #EmpoweringYouth #NYCYouth #Impact #CareerTraining #Community

Career & Education Fairs for Parents of Elementary and Middle School Parents? I was on a call with one of my community colleagues this morning discussing ways to retain talent throughout Nebraska and grow our state's skilled workforce. An interesting idea came up: What if we hosted career and education/training fairs for parents at elementary and middle schools across the state? While students are in school, parents could explore skills development, job training, and career advancement opportunities. This could create stronger connections between families and the resources they need for success—helping both parents and our workforce grow. 👨👩👧👦 This is just an idea, and more work is needed to explore it further, but could this be a valuable resource for our communities throughout Nebraska? 🔽 What do you think? Vote below! 🔽 - Absolutely! Parents and students need more opportunities like this. - This work is already happening (please share more info in the comments). - No, I don’t think it would have a big impact. Let me know your thoughts in the comments! 💬 #CareerDevelopment #SkillsTraining #ParentEngagement #NebraskaTalent #CommunityGrowth

What an incredible turnout at Michigan Technological University's Michigan Day Career Fest! Hundreds of students had the chance to explore career opportunities with top companies from across the state, including 13 U.P. employers. As a region, the U.P is blessed with nearly 20,000 higher-ed students. According to Amy Berglund of InvestUP, for a rural region, this is “significant” and reflects why this is “a great opportunity to introduce students to the U.P. employers, and also the U.P. employers to the students.” With MTU enrollment surging to 7,430 and earning accolades for early career salaries, the Michigan Day Career Fest couldn’t come at a better time! This paired momentum is creating exciting opportunities for both students and U.P. employers. #NationalCareersWeek I actually wrote this last year ... still just as relevant today as it was then so reposting again this National Careers Week ... For many, including myself, a careers journey is not a straight line, but rather one taking many twists and turns. My meandering journey has seen me in many job roles, giving me an enormous amount of experience and a plethora of transferable skills. Think about all your experiences, from working, volunteering, in your personal life, and think about all the valuable transferable skills you have gained. #careers #careerjourney #lifeskills #skills #transferableskills #experience Blackpool and The Fylde College

Sometimes 50strong is referred to as a "veteran resource". It's kind of true - but not as directly as folks sometimes think. We don't do 1:1 case management or job placement or career counseling for individual jobseekers. We simply aren't resourced for that. And we are grateful to strong VSOs that do do this important work. (And we are def happy to support with at-scale connects & referrals to strong employers often!) But really, we are an "employer resource" that is made possible by a community of "employer voyagers" all working #together. Employers have questions about HOW TO DO #DoDSkillBridge, #StudentVeteran employment, #apprenticeships, etc We want to "...ENABLE EMPLOYERS SO THAT THEY CAN OPEN MORE OPPORTUNITIES." This video is from 2022 at an event hosted by USC Veterans and Military Affairs. (THANK YOU again to Jared Evans & team!) It is as true today as it was then. And we work with industry thought leaders, business chambers, education partners, etc every day toward this goal. oh & some cool efforts coming - hope you'll join us! 💙

I just have 1️⃣ thing to say to the #HigherEd Institutions that are leaning in on INDUSTRY-LED CAREER EXPLORATION for the #MilAffiliatedStudents they serve: THANK YOU! 🙏🏽 We've worked hard to offer at-scale engagement that is EASY, CASUAL, VIRTUAL (& free for schools). Collaborative sharing by our Ed partners has been key to encouraging student attendance. For the April 11 50strong EmployerConnect: ⏩ 55% of the ~700 registered identified themselves as **currently-enrolled students or recent grads**. And here are the Top 10 Schools that drove this. We thank their leaders for their commitment to collaboration & strong employment outcomes. Note: this is based on affiliations as stated by each registered guest as a % of total mil-affiliated students (so fair for smaller schools). #VeteranEmployment includes #StudentVeterans. Are you affiliated with one of these schools?!?
