But to help farmers in the supply chain make a living, they need greater control. That's why some of the largest agribusinesses in the world are farmer-owned co-ops. https://lnkd.in/gFujzr2P

The new regulations to promote fairness and transparency for the dairy sector are due to be laid before Parliament today. The consultation process for the legislation started back in 2020 and the new regulations will be welcomed by those in the sector. The regulations will: Provide clearer pricing terms. Contracts will now set out the factors which will generate the price payable for the milk price. Prevent unilateral changes to the contracts without both parties’ consent. This will encourage the parties to discuss required changes and agree how the changes are to be implemented. Farmers’ contracts will all include a straightforward way to raise concerns about their contracts, promoting accountability and timely issue resolution. Set out clear rules on notice periods and exclusivity. This will protect the rights of both parties and remove any ambiguity from contracts which have in the past led to disputes. Provide for an enforcement mechanism to be created to guarantee the regulations are followed, ensuring a fair and transparent dairy industry based on a solid foundation to enable it to thrive in the future. I will post an article with further guidance on the regulations this week with guidance on the changes required to milk supply contracts to ensure compliance.
