CW: Sexual Abuse As artificial intelligence continues to become a greater and greater part of our daily lives, it is our responsibility to consider both the positive and negative sides of the technology. One of the grey areas in the use of AI technology is the creation and distribution of "deepfakes." Did you know that 98% of deepfake content is digital sexual abuse in the form of nonconsensual pornography. Of that 98%, an overwhelming 99% of victims are women, who are historically underrepresented in areas of technology. As each day passes it feels we're inching closer to an episode on Black Mirror. Just over a week ago, I voiced my concerns regarding the disproportionate impact of AI-generated content on women and children. When a woman as privileged as Scarlett Johansson experiences such a blatant violation of her consent, it highlights how much more vulnerable other women and marginalized groups are to similar and possibly worse instances of violations. We must build community leaders to become involved in monitoring and helping to build safeguards around AI. Right now the cash race is on and protecting us is not Big Tech's priority. How can we get community activists involved in protecting our people?

Major Legislative Announcement 📢 Today, I’m proud to propose groundbreaking laws targeting the creation, distribution, and threats involving deep fakes – realistic artificially generated sexualised images. I’m also proposing a new offence specifically targeting blackmail involving deepfakes. Additionally, I’m advocating for significantly increased penalties for existing filming and sexting offences, especially when minors are the depicted victim. These penalties could reach up to $40,000 or 4 years of imprisonment. Our love affair with technology has reached new and frightening heights, and we must be fearless in our response! Deepfakes can cause severe harm, including reputational damage, emotional distress, and privacy invasion, and disproportionately impact young people and women. AI has shown all too well the urgent need for tailor-made laws to close the deepfake blank space.

Deepfakes are a worry in digital development in this age of rapid technical advancement. This article delves deeply into the workings of deepfake technology, exposing both its potential dangers and its constantly changing capabilities. The manipulation of images and videos to make sexually oriented content may be considered a criminal offense across all the European Union nations.  The first directive on violence against will move through its final approval stage by April 2024. With the help of AI programs, these images are being modified to undress women without their consent. What changes will the new directive bring? And what will happen if the women who live in the European Union are the target of manipulation but the attacks happen in countries outside the European Nation? https://lnkd.in/guUdiMYh

#GenAI will have extraordinary uses in generating #fakedata for scarce phenomenon which will improve application areas as diverse as transportation and rare species habitat preservation. Think. It’s hard to get enough training data to recognize an endangered bird with high confidence, but if scientists can train a model using real and generated (fake) data, they can vastly improve image recognition confidence for that rare bird. But there’s a dark side to the ease with which #GenAI can generate fake data, and non-consensual porn is one of them. This article is a short look at the current state of #deepfake non-consensual #porn and the impact it has on its victims including blackmail, complete isolation, and suicide. Much more study, attention, and activism is required. I am personally incensed and deeply concerned.

Deepfake technology has very little benefit, while facilitating non-consensual pornography, CSAM and VCSAM, gender-based violence, fraud, and political disinformation. They even threaten free speech: if real human voices are drowned out in a sea of machine-generated fake speech, how will we be heard?
