A boy who developed a severe form of epilepsy at age 3 has become the first patient in the world to trial a new neurostimulator device fitted in their skull to control his numerous daily seizures. 🔋 The device sends electrical signals deep into his brain and could reduce his daytime seizures by 80%, significantly improving his quality of life, as his mother said. 🔍 So far, deep brain neurostimulators have been placed in the chest, with wires running up to the brain, to try to treat kids' epilepsy. “Fixation off sensitivity” refers to electrographic abnormalities or seizures precipitated by the suppression of visual fixation. The class of epilepsies that most commonly manifests with Fixation Off Sensitivity and is almost synonymous with it is occipital lobe epilepsy. However, this electrographic finding is not specific for any of the entities within this broad and versatile category of epilepsies. There is a predilection for the younger age group.
