Young people have the most skin in the game as the generation that’ll inherit the systems, services, economy and climate that is being shaped today. It’s only right that they’re at the forefront of change. I helped young people develop these ‘Guiding Principles for Youth-led Social Action’ to act as a conversation starter, a prompt for reflection and a regular reminder for how to embrace the power of young people in change-making.

ESG Director Christina Rehnberg with King's College London hosted a workshop at Delancey, with community leaders, researchers, and public health officials to address health inequalities in the UK.    The event featured representatives from Lambeth, Bradford, and Kent, who joined forces to discuss practical steps for creating an inclusive, UK-wide, Multisectoral Collaborative.    The group uncovered some important factors for building community capacity and connectedness: 🤝 Dedicated physical spaces need to exist for groups to meet and mix at. ✍ Clear language and communication is fundamental to remove biases in grant applications and decisions. 🫂 Old and young people are often separated in initiatives -intergenerational solutions help drive connection. ✨ People need to be incentivised and made aware of outcomes in order to actively participate. 📩 Follow-ups need to be clear and include why something was not moved forward - communicating more is better than not communicating enough. 💭 Finally, solutions need to consider who actually is underserved or marginalised, on which topic, and why, in order to genuinely remove barriers for participation. Our second theme will focus on becoming the organisational lead for working-class youth voice. Here are three key objectives: 1️⃣ Amplify youth voice: develop and deliver partnership projects and programmes that feature youth voice as the primary change-making mechanism. 2️⃣ Foster inclusive deliberation: support and grow the participation of our young people in civic decision-making spaces. 3️⃣ Enhance youth influence: engage working-class young people in movement advocacy and influencing work with a socio-economic focus.
