There's no shortage of gas Australia-wide. But gas-dependent Victoria is facing the risk of shortages. Here’s why.
Great, informative report.

Western Australia has largely been immune to the gas supply issues of the eastern states. But this could be about to change. Our post on the Energy Insights Blog explains why and outlines what could be done about it. #gas #australia #westernaustralia #gassupply #resources #energynews #energyinsights https://lnkd.in/gxAvykSR

Advocate for the American energy revolution, which is delivering jobs, prosperity, & security to millions of Americans
The Northeast's restrictions on #pipelines + #permitting challenges continue to cause the region (i.e. New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts) to rely on burning expensive and high-emitting heating oil and/or importing foreign energy from Trinidad, Tobago, and Russia. Not only does heating oil have significantly higher emissions than natural gas, it also is makes no sense that the region continues to import energy from overseas instead of building the interstate pipelines needed to deliver clean, affordable natural gas to their citizens. American natural gas is also needed to support the region's desire to add renewable energy sources to the grid, as natural gas storage is vital to ensuring the Northeast has reliable energy available during cold winter months to back-up renewables. As the The Wall Street Journal reports: "Pipeline projects have been blocked that would deliver gas from prolific shale-gas fields in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. "Even renewable-power projects meet resistance in the Northeast." #naturalgas #pipelines #storage #climate #emissions #permitting https://lnkd.in/enH6ddXD

🇬🇧 🇺🇸 UK's last coal plant shutdown bodes well for US LNG exports United States exporters of liquefied natural gas (LNG) are likely cheering the shutdown of the last coal-fired power plant in the United Kingdom, as the move locks in long-term gas demand by the world's sixth largest economy. By closing the 2,000 megawatt (MW) coal plant in Nottinghamshire, Britain has become the first G7 country to end coal-fired power production and make significant progress against energy transition and pollution reduction targets. And now it has begun..........the long predicted by industry (but wilfully ignored by many in politics) - East Coast gas shortage. The near to market gas resources in the Taroom Trough are now even more crucial for the country https://lnkd.in/gCvBU2Ca

I am confused with this Future Gas Strategy that claims to make gas more affordable for households. Why do we need new gas fields when we're already exporting 30% of our gas? Is energy affordability the new smoke to promote gas exploration? Am I the only person who thinks this is madness? https://lnkd.in/gQDT7TUr

Reports from EnergyQuest and Australian Energy Producers reveal a challenging future for the nation amidst global energy uncertainties. Gas shortages predicted by 2028 may lead to heavy reliance on LNG imports in NSW, while Victoria could see 91% of its gas demand met by imports by 2034. Industry leaders stress collaboration between governments and oil/gas companies to navigate this energy transformation without compromising security or driving up prices. 🔄⚡ #EnergyCrisis #ClimateAction #GasShortage #AustraliaEnergyFuture

"The United Kingdom will today close its last coal fired power plant. The closure of Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station marks the end of the coal power era in the country, making the UK the first G7 nation and advanced, industrialised country to achieve this goal. In 2012, the UK was still generating around 40% of its electricity from coal, but this has now dropped to zero in just 12 years. This is a major step out of fossil fuels for the UK, with oil and gas set to follow, and shows what can be done when there is cross-party consensus behind ambitious action to decarbonise the energy system." 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 https://lnkd.in/gtZGbkKQ #cleanenergy

Victoria's new undersea gas storage project is a response to an increasing need for gas supply security. Despite being one of the world's largest exporters of natural gas, Australia faces a dilemma; its domestic gas supply is under pressure, particularly in the southeastern states like Victoria. This is partly because much of the gas produced in Australia is earmarked for export, leaving domestic markets vulnerable to shortages, especially during winter when demand peaks. The new storage facility will help manage this by storing surplus gas when demand is low and releasing it during periods of high consumption. While Australia doesn’t import gas, local supply issues stem from the focus on exports to lucrative overseas markets. This has created a situation where even though Australia produces ample gas, the domestic market can experience scarcity. The Victorian government's decision to enhance gas storage capacity aims to mitigate these risks by ensuring more reliable access to gas during critical periods, helping to stabilize the market and protect against potential supply shocks in the future. 2mo"Getting Victoria off gas means 200 households have to quit gas every day for the next 20 years." "Doing nothing means gas shortages will be inevitable, acting as an economic, social, and political disruption to tackling climate change." Well said, Tony Wood!
