For over 90 years, Guide Dogs has been transforming lives with their incredible range of services, with and without dogs, to support people living with vision impairment. From children to adults to friends and family, their expert staff, dedicated volunteers, and life-changing dogs help individuals live actively, independently, and well. As the world's largest assistance dog organisation, Guide Dogs leads the way in puppy socialisation and dog training, being the only UK organisation to breed and train guide dogs. At Gravis, we're thrilled to play our part by naming and raising a puppy this year! Our puppy is set to be born very soon, and we can't wait to share more updates. Earlier this year, Gravis joined The Academy of Real Assets to empower the next generation. The Academy of Real Assets is a charitable organisation dedicated to enhancing access and awareness of the real assets industry among youth organisations and disadvantaged school pupils. Anthony Curl, CIO and Chair of the Responsible Investment Committee at Gravis said: “We are delighted to have become members of the Academy of Real Assets. Gravis is looking forward to participating in engagement events like school talks to help increase long-term socio-economic diversity in our sector. In the latest instalment of Octo's 'Why Now for Investment Trusts?' programme, Philip Kent, CEO at Gravis and investment adviser to GCP Infrastructure Investments joined Nick Britton, Research Director at the The Association of Investment Companies (AIC). The conversation delves into the unique advantages and challenges of investing in infrastructure through an investment trust structure. Phil discussed the benefits of the Investment Trust model, particularly its ability to balance the liquidity demands of illiquid infrastructure assets with the need to provide daily liquidity for shareholders. He highlighted the critical role of transparency, disclosure, and independent boards in safeguarding shareholder interests. The discussion also touched on the broader investment landscape, including the UK government’s support for new asset classes, infrastructure’s key role in decarbonising various sectors, and its impact on the digital economy and social challenges. Phil expressed cautious optimism about new government policies, such as changes in planning legislation and the National Wealth Fund, and their potential to attract private sector capital. Phil outlined GCP Infrastructure Investments Ltd's three core objectives: delivering stable income, diversification, and capital preservation.
