With Spring in full force, wildlife photography is back! Here are some tips for taking photographs of your local wildlife: 📷 Depending on how close you can get to your subject, you'll need a zoom lens. The 70-300mm zoom gives you the option of capturing 'friendlier' subjects with background detail at the wider 70mm end but with the scope to photograph them from a distance with the 300mm end. 📷 If you're using a telephoto lens at the long end, try using a tripod and a remote release to minimise camera shake and ensure crystal-clear pictures. Tips for Wildlife Photography Shoot in RAW: This allows for greater flexibility when editing the images, especially in low-light situations. Focus on Eyes: Sharp focus on the animal's eyes often brings life to the photograph, making it more engaging. Use Fast Shutter Speeds: Fast shutter speeds (1/1000s or higher) are crucial to freeze motion, especially for birds in flight or animals on the move. Compose Thoughtfully: Using the rule of thirds and including elements of the animal’s habitat can create compelling and storytelling images. Wildlife photography can be a deeply rewarding pursuit, offering both the thrill of the chase and the satisfaction of capturing nature's beauty. Wildlife Photography Tip 1: Tell A Story 📖 By planning the story you want to tell or the message you want to convey through your shots you are more likely to capture everything you need. Think about what you want to shoot and why that angle or scene might be interesting. Do you want to do a close-up? Full body shot? Have lots of background in the picture? These are all things to consider and then experiment with. When photographing wildlife, it’s our aim as the photographer to capture the poses we see as great images and through them, tell a story.
