Only a few days left in Winter Break! Here are 5 professional tips to help our students kick off a new semester: ▶️ 📸 Get a headshot! It doesn't have to be by a professional, an iPhone will do just fine! Use natural light and a blank background. Or plan to get a headshot done with Walton Career Connections when you return to campus, make an appointment in Handshake! ▶️ 📄 Update your resume and portfolio with internships, projects, or relevant classes from the Fall 2023 semester. ▶️ 👔👗 Check out end-of-season clothing sales to stock your professional wardrobe. Lots of stores have sales this time of year! ▶️ 🤝 Reach out to people who could serve as professional references. (Professors, internship coordinators, advisors, mentors) ▶️🗓 Create a plan for how you're going to apply for summer internships. It's internship application season. Often, when you hear about potential jobs you can only guess what's happening in the day to day. What is it like to brainstorm with a team you don't know? How good can you make an idea when you have award-winning creatives as your partners? What can you produce with a state-of-the-art studio at your fingertips? Well, internships can reveal all of things to you at ANY number of agencies. But, not all will take the time to see you. Signal Theory invests in our interns because it matters to us. We see it as an opportunity to also coach you to investigate the more important questions. "Do I enjoy this? Do I want to get better at this and accept this challenge? Can I see this as my career?" Internships are the ideal time to say "no", but we want to encourage the yes. I want to work with more of you smart ones. Info session is happening tomorrow @1:30p

📢📢📢STUDENTS📢📢📢 The time to apply for summer internships is ❗❗NOW❗❗ Here are six tips to keep in mind when applying for summer internships: ✔️ Consider applying for internships beginning your freshman year. ✔️ Get familiar with the application process and apply early. ✔️ Get your resume ready. ✔️ Network whenever possible. ✔️ Follow directions closely and respond in a timely fashion. ✔️ Practice your interview skills. We have two user research positions open, one in NYC and one in Stockholm, and several other research or data scientist roles that may be good fits for some of my followers. Feel free to get in touch with me if you have questions, keeping in mind that: --- the User Research roles are for current Bachelor's or Master's students, not PhD students; others may be PhD-level --- I'll only be able to consider providing a referral if I have *prior exposure to your work* or *already know you well* --- Referral or not, we can talk about general tips or your strategy, but I probably won't have time to review your application materials I encourage you to apply if you think you might even maybe be a fit! It's a great place to be an intern and a great opportunity to practice not self-rejecting. The impact of Covid on the laborers is still being felt. College students graduating during the pandemic did not have the same opportunities as previous and future graduates to intern. Internships are the first entity to land a career in your field of study. Not having this opportunity creates obstacles for pandemic graduates entering the workforce and created a catch 22. If you offer internships at your company, consider making exceptions for graduates who were not able to intern during the pandemic.
