September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, a time to further raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research, and to find ways to prevent and treat the disease. Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease for children under 14 years old. Every single day, approximately 44 children are diagnosed with cancer. Despite these statistics, childhood cancer research funding is far behind the dollars raised for adult cancers. It is crucial that funds are raised and directed towards research for safer, more effective treatments for children. Adstra Nonprofit is very proud to work alongside Children's Cancer Research Fund, a national nonprofit dedicated to ending childhood cancer. Their main focus is to support the research of scientists across the country whose ideas can make the greatest impact for children fighting cancer and to also fund resources and programs that help kids and families as they navigate the difficult experience of cancer treatment and survivorship. #ChildhoodCancerAwarenessMonth #nonprofits

This year #dryjuly means more to me than ever before. You see, I was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer earlier this year and, after surgery, have been receiving treatment. Thankfully, my prognosis is excellent and with some ongoing treatment this will all be but hiccup in my life …. One of the many things I’m learning is that exercise is a major contributor to better long term outcomes. Those of you who know me know that this (exercise) has been a battle for me for many years and that although I cognitively understand this - putting it into practice has been something I’ve railed against …. My treatment includes an opportunity to engage in a cancer rehab exercise class in a small group with amazing exercise physiologists through restore oncology care & Lymphoedema Clinic. This has been a game changer for me and I can really see why it’s so important in my rehabilitation: for both my head as well as my body … And I’m loving the classes! restore oncology care & Lymphoedema Clinic participate in the #DryJuly fundraiser to raise money specifically for cancer rehabilitation. The aim is to highlight the benefits of exercise in cancer care, which is known to improve long-term outcomes, reduce side effects, and enhance the effectiveness of chemotherapy and radiation on tumours. Funds raised through #DryJuly are channeled back through the Pinc and Steel Foundation, enabling the provision of funded exercise classes for people affected by cancer. The more money raised, the more individuals can be supported with exercise, thereby removing financial barriers to accessing these essential services. On Wednesday, Douglas Jackson will be joining Spin on the Square* and WE NEED YOUR HELP to raise even more money for Children with Cancer UK 🧡💜, because if we can we should. (the pictures were taken from a similar event last year.) We are delighted to be supporting Dawn & Sharon – aka the @LEJoG Sisters – and help support them in this fundraising event. Myself, Michelle Ansell, Holly Beeston, Perry Fletcher, Mark Larner, Robin Wain will join Ian Covey and lots of other big-hearted bikers will be donating 1 hour of our time on Wednesday 1st May to jump on a spin bike on Lichfield's Market Square, Visit Lichfield Lichfield District Council so that we can collectively spin the length of the country in a day. Spin on the Square – and all of the LEJoG Sisters fundraising – is inspired by the memory of Dawn’s son, Christopher, who died of an inoperable brain tumour at the tender age of six. Thankfully brain tumours in children are relatively rare – even so, every month in the UK more than 30 children are diagnosed with a brain tumour. Turning their lives completely upside down. Children with Cancer UK are there for them. Providing essential support to families and funding the research needed to find kinder, more effective treatments. It’s thanks, in part, to Children with Cancer UK’s work over the past 35 years, advances of in detection, treatment and care mean that 74% of children with brain tumours now survive for 5 years or more. We're finally able to share this project with you all. For the last 2 years we've worked with Karen Hamlen, Ben Hood and an incredible group of teenagers and young adults (TYAs) to create TYAR.org. An age-appropriate resource which helps to inform TYAs about Clinical Trials, Biobanking and Genomics. The entire project was produced by HT; Logo, graphics, branding, videos, animations, photographs and website. We've had the chance to meet some amazing and inspiring TYAs throughout the project. At each stage they we're consulted to see what they'd like the resource to look like and what information it should contain. Teams from across Citi London have come together in an epic challenge to raise funds for Cancer Research UK’s life-saving research.   11 others and I will be taking part in the Dragon Boat races on Thursday 19 September at the Docklands Sailing & Water sports Centre.   We’re raising funds for Epic Dive, a trial to use blood tests to detect pancreatic cancer earlier. In England, just 8% of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer survive their disease for 5 years or more. Often, this is because it’s diagnosed too late, when the cancer has already spread and treatment options are limited. The EPIC DIVE team aims to find new ways to capture and amplify chemical signals given off by pancreatic cancer into the blood. If successful, this research could lead to new tests that help diagnose cancer at an early stage, when the chances of successful treatment are highest, saving lives. Dear LinkedIn, First post here so I thought I’d make it meaningful. I’ve been lucky enough to secure a London marathon place through the ballot for this coming April (2025) and will be raising some money for Frank's Fund, which helps life saving research into Ewing sarcoma. Ewing sarcoma most commonly affects children and young adults aged 10-25 years old and makes up about 1.5% of all childhood cancers. A child, teenager or adult is diagnosed with primary bone cancer every 10 minutes somewhere in the world, however in past years primary bone cancer received just 0.027% of funding from the major UK cancer charities. Treatment protocols are out of date and gruelling. It’s a scandal that the lack of investment means that neither treatment nor survival rates have improved in over 30 years, with little chance of survival should it return. Frank, whom this Fund was set up in memory of, would never have wanted any child to suffer as he suffered. If his death is to have any meaning at all, it needs to be to help people who are diagnosed in the future by raising funds that can be invested in much needed research. All I’m asking for is the price of a pint or a cup of coffee. It’s a model based on kindness and soundness and will help children and young people that need it the most. Any support is appreciated. I don't typically use my LinkedIn this way but I'm making an exception for this worthy cause, I have been invited to participate in the Chicago Marathon in support of Project Purple. Project Purple is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering the fight against pancreatic cancer. The organization has invested more than $3.5 million in research and has assisted over 1,350 families with daily living and medical expenses, providing more than $1,150,000 in patient aid. Additionally, Project Purple has distributed over 4,500 Blankets of Hope care packages to individuals battling pancreatic cancer as a gesture of love and support.   The survival rate for pancreatic cancer is currently 13%, and Project Purple is committed to improving this statistic. Any funds raised through the link provided below will be allocated towards research, with a significant emphasis on early detection, and to patients and their families to help cover cost-of-living expenses through our patient aid programs. Furthermore, by contributing, you will become part of my accountability group as I train and prepare to run my first full marathon.
