Company culture impacts every aspect of your P&L. If that doesn't resonate with you, I'm betting you also think culture is an HR responsibility and that you'll show up for break-room birthday cake whenever possible. People-centric leadership recognizes that culture and strategy are two parts of the same whole, and one cannot thrive without the other. Take a typical approach and get typical results. Take an atypical approach and get atypical results. Hear more with my new buddies Rigel Jose Raju and Travis Callaway on their budding new podcast Coffee, Commerce & Catechesis. Decades of looking at things differently; disrupting and designing how things get done! Executive Leadership @Fragomen, Technology CEO @Fragomen WorkRIght US, Executive Advisory mentoring and Angel Investing Speaker.
I heard this term on a podcast conversation between Trevor Noah and Adam Grant. (More about that conversation in a separate upcoming post.) It's a perfect description of what happens, for example, when we're fervently aligning with total strangers at a stadium or concert. We don't see our differences, only our shared passion for a team or a band or a moment. And it's also a great descriptor of what happens in the workplace, when our strategy and brilliance is sparking on all fronts, when we're firing off suggestions and solutions and feeling so connected to everyone involved and contributing to the outcome. It's what makes us love our jobs and our companies, and underscores the enjoyment of challenging work done well. "Collective effervescence." More of that, please. #leadership #innovation #teamwork #workforcemanagement #collaboration #talent #employeeengagement #retention

Co-Founder & CEO @ RTA Group | Employee Benefits, HR Technology & HR Consulting | Host of the Culture Champions Podcast | Private Equity & Venture Investor (Revenue Generating Only)
Feeling at a crossroads can be a pivotal moment in our journey. In the most recent Culture Champions Podcast we had the pleasure to learn from CHRO John Ferguson, SHRM-CP, PHR of NASCAR, and he touches on this sentiment. John’s take on it is insightful: rather than seeing it as a dead end, it’s an opportunity to reassess and explore new possibilities. This perspective is vital for anyone feeling stuck, whether in their career or personal life. It’s about recognizing these moments as a signal for change and growth. The role of mentors in such situations is invaluable, offering guidance, new viewpoints and a broader perspective. John’s advice is a powerful reminder that if you feel stuck, lean in and seek perspective. Check the comments for a link to watch the full episode. #HR #SharingYourExperience #Leadership

When was the last time you thought about the true driver behind decision-making in your company? John shared a thought-provoking perspective on our podcast ➡ culture is what shapes decisions in the absence of policy. This isn't just about empowering people. It's about equipping them with the right tools to make decisions when leadership isn't around. He emphasized the need for technical competence, goals, and early check-ins to steer the decision-making process. It's a far cry from the typical "empowerment" narrative we hear so often. But here's the kicker: are we too focused on policy, forgetting that true culture is what happens when the rulebook isn't open? Maybe it's time to rethink the way we define and cultivate workplace culture. How does your company ensure the right decisions are made when leadership isn't present?
