Excited to announce that we are putting together an educational series for finance folks in the oil and gas business who are struggling with reporting! Having seen this issue up close and personal, reporting across all departments is a pain. All key data management wants to see lives in different places and there is little standardization across these systems. I forever have AFE vs. Actual heartburn!! I saw a single excel workbook grow from a single tab to multi-tab, to too big to email, to threading out…. It was a disaster. Oh then the dreaded “last minute reporting change” that unfortunately I was too lazy to properly link files so it’s hardcoded and the meeting is in 30 min…. The funny part is, data engineer isn’t part of my job description (last time I checked at least) but more and more it seemed like that’s what was needed to keep up with the ever-growing floating mass that is reporting. So I went back to basics, tried and failed to figure out how to reengineer the underlying data model itself, visited Stack Overflow and YouTube a couple of thousand times, and finally produced something that worked for our use case and more importantly solved the reporting data issues I was experiencing. It seems like more and more, analysts are being asked to become a data engineer as an implicant part of the job description. That is why we are partnering up with W Energy to put together this series to dive into the struggle of reporting, how to design a solution, and most importantly, teach some basic data skills that can provide huge efficiency gains within your role. Breaking it down into 4 parts, with the first two parts exclusively online covering: part one helping scope the problem, and part two focusing on designing a solution that works for you. Then for Part 3 & 4, we are going hybrid and to hosting up to 40 people live in Houston TX for some legit, hands-on training where we take what we developed in part 2 and go ahead and build it out. Part 4 we will finally have some fun, where we go ahead and lay over your favorite BI tool, build some reports and get to analyze the fruits of our labor. The first online event kicks July 11th and July 16th @ 2PM with the July 23rd and 30th hybrid sessions live in Houston (also online if you want to tune in virtually) at 6:30 PM CST Looking forward to seeing everyone there!!
