Sometimes even if you run three different #geotechnicalengineering models on your #seismic design for your #deepexcavation, and the results are relatively close. In this case, a conventional limit-equilibrium, a 2d #finiteelementanalysis with pseudo-static seismic pressures, and a 2D #FEM with a dynamic history record. It's better to go with the slightly most conservative answer in this case. For larger #earthquakes, you should always look into a time history analysis because displacements accumulate with each dynamic cycle. #DeepEX 2024 model with all analysis methods in a single file. Geological models come in two flavors: surface-based and object-based. Simple deterministic methods of creating surfaces are part of GIS. Advanced methods include advancing front technique (AFT) and discrete smooth interpolation. They are typical in engineering applications. AFT generates unstructured meshes that conform to complex geometries in finite element analysis. Kriging highlights randomness in modeling variability. But it is a deterministic method. True stochastic methods involve randomness in computational process. For these we need geostatistical software like SGeMS. Object-based modeling uses irregular 3D (tetrahedral) meshes or 3D grids (or voxels). Grids can be both regular and irregular. Irregular grids offer flexibility in representing complex geometries. Regular grids offer computational simplicity. 3D grids distribute properties into cells. Property prediction throughout the model requires 3D interpolation or stochastic simulation. Interpolation can be tetrahedral or trilinear, tricubic, Radial Basis Function, or IDW. Their choice reflects the data distribution and the required smoothness and accuracy. #geologicalmodeling #geotechnical #geotechnics #geoscience #QGIS Modeling workflow is explained in my video on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/eQ6Hg-49

Vladimir Cervenka, Jan Cervenka and Jiri Rymes, all from our company Cervenka Consulting have released their publication using #ATENAsoftware for their analyses in Structural Concrete, 2024. https://lnkd.in/etq868vd. The title of their article is: Numerical simulation of concrete structures—From research to engineering application. This work describes the authors' contribution to the evolution of numerical simulation of concrete structures based on the nonlinear finite element method. The formulation of constitutive relations for concrete material is a keystone of this approach, whereas cracking is the dominant feature. Two dis-tinct methods of crack modeling were developed, namely, the discrete and the smeared crack models. Blind prediction benchmarks of the experimental tests are used for model verification. #ATENAsoftware #nonlinearanalysis #concrete #reinforcement #finiteelementanalysis #cracks #damage #fractureenergy #modeluncertainty

Participants will be guided through the process of setting up the finite element model, including the definition of pile and raft geometry, assigning material properties, and applying loading conditions. The lesson will also cover the calculation of key forces within the foundation, such as axial forces and moments in both the raft and piles. Detailed analysis will be conducted to evaluate how the piled-raft system distributes loads, handles settlement, and ensures overall stability. By the end of this lesson, participants will gain essential skills in modeling, analyzing, and interpreting the behavior of piled-raft foundations using PLAXIS 3D. In this How-to Wednesday: How does DeepEX consider the interaction between 2 walls in deadman systems? DeepEX delivers cutting-edge solutions for geotechnical challenges, particularly in the complex interaction of walls in deadman systems. When the passive zone of a back wall intersects with the active zone of the front wall, pressures are redistributed, affecting the structural integrity of your project. Using both Finite Element (FEM) and Limit Equilibrium (LEM) analyses, DeepEX precisely captures these effects. The advanced FEM module automatically calculates the pressure transfer, while LEM applies an additional impact load based on crucial factors like soil friction and wall depth. Explore the full potential of DeepEX’s analytical tools by visiting our website for detailed files and examples. Ensure the success of your next geotechnical project with DeepEX’s innovative technology. 👍 Found this guide helpful?
