Thanks for sharing your research Nishka!
Just a little late to posting this, but I had an amazing time at the National LGBTQ Health Conference: Bridging Research and Practice in Atlanta back in August! I got to present research alongside my colleague Azariah Burkette on feedback we received on a Comprehensive Health, Wellness, and Youth Empowerment Curriculum. This project is in collaboration with the The LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland and the THRiVE collaborative. We explored how unique ethnic perspectives may influence sexual health education as well as gender and sexual identities education. I learned so much from the incredible discussions and presentations, and I’m so grateful for the connections, friends, and memories made during the conference! #LGBTQHealth #HealthResearch #YouthEmpowerment #Conference #ResearchPresentation #BridgingResearchAndPractice #Atlanta

🌈 Let's talk about intergenerational trauma! 🧠💬 It's more than just a buzzword—it's a real and impactful experience that many of us in the LGBTQ+ community may grapple with. Intergenerational trauma refers to the transmission of trauma from one generation to the next, often through behaviors, beliefs, and relational patterns. 🌟💔 This can stem from historical events like persecution, discrimination, or violence against LGBTQ+ individuals, as well as systemic oppression and societal stigma. So why does it matter? Understanding intergenerational trauma helps us make sense of our own experiences and behaviors, recognizing that our struggles may not solely be our own but may also be influenced by our family's history and experiences. It's about unpacking the ways trauma can shape our lives and relationships, and finding pathways to healing and resilience. 💖🏳️🌈 By acknowledging and exploring intergenerational trauma, we empower ourselves to break free from its grip and create a brighter, more compassionate future for ourselves and generations to come. 🌟🌱 🧠💖 #IntergenerationalTrauma #LGBTQCommunity #HealingJourney #TherapyPodcast #MentalHealthPodcast #QueerMentalHealth #lgbtqtherapist

As national celebrations continue for #PrideMonth, HPIO analysis of data on LGBTQ+ youth shows that large disparities exist in poor mental health and suicide attempts, compared to heterosexual teens, although community support can play a key role in reducing those numbers (as illustrated below). There are evidence-informed strategies that Ohio leaders can adopt to improve health disparities for LGBTQ+ Ohioans. By ensuring access to developmentally appropriate care, improving provider education and including sexual orientation and gender identity in anti-discrimination laws, Ohio can create more accepting communities and close gaps in health outcomes for LGBTQ+ Ohioans.

"For many children, the thought of going back to school is a source of extreme anxiety and depression. According to The Trevor Project, LGBTQ+ and transgender youth experience more bullying and violence, and as a result of stigmatization and discrimination, are more likely to experience depression and other mental health challenges than their peers."
