March is also Women’s History Month! This year’s theme celebrates “Women Who Advocate for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.” According to Hope House’s Director of Outpatient Treatment, Barry Grant and Outpatient Admissions Coordinator, Kelli Phillips, “as we enter the month of March, this may very well be one of ─ if not ─ the most significant month of them all. Women’s History highlights a special time to recognize those who have brought us all from non-existence to where we are today. Keep in mind: everyone who came to be did so through the body of a woman. Diversity describes the degree to which institutions and organizations represent the compositional heterogeneity of individual characteristics within the workforce (Ferdman, 2013). Equity means that everyone has access to what is necessary to be successful. Inclusion exists when barriers are eliminated and when people are valued and appreciated as themselves, and then become willing and able to fully be involved in decision‐making (Jordan & Jegede, 2020). This creates a space of inclusiveness in which those seeking solutions, and providers from diverse backgrounds have an opportunity to equally collaborate and contribute toward improving outcomes for all people. In 1908, amidst dreadfully cruel working conditions 15,000 women took to the streets in New York demanding shorter hours, better pay and voting rights. The following year, National Women’s Day was announced to honor the strikers. In 1910 it went global, and the first International Women’s Day was held in 1911. For much of the 20th century, International Women’s Day was acknowledged and celebrated by people at the grassroots level, a rallying point for social justice. It was not until 1975 – International Women’s Year – that the United Nations adopted International Women’s Day on the 8 of March, and it is still celebrated.” To read more about Women’s History Month and its impact on our Outpatient program here at Hope House, please subscribe to our newsletter at https://lnkd.in/ebggD758.

There is concerning evidence that people from under-represented groups are losing trust in healthcare systems and providers, and this is affecting their health outcomes. To combat this, Sanofi launched its A Million Conversations initiative in 2023 to empower people from under-represented communities to engage in a direct dialogue with health system leaders, including the healthcare industry, and to grow a pipeline of diverse healthcare leaders. The Health Policy Partnership is proud to have convened the initiative’s Advisory Group while also lending secretariat support. The Advisory Group comprises ten inspirational leaders from around the world – people working in healthcare, academia, advocacy, and research – who are committed to helping make healthcare more accessible and equitable for all. Recent research has shown that people from under-represented groups have had their trust in healthcare eroded. In many countries, women, people from ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, and the LGBTQ+ community report higher levels of negative experiences. It is our hope that our contribution to A Million Conversations, alongside the expertise of its Advisory Group, can shift the needle to ensure trust is restored in healthcare to improve people's experiences and outcomes globally. Body and Soul Sovereignty United (Bass United) is committed to addressing disparities in health outcomes negatively impacting Black, Indigenous, and Women of Color (BIWOC), especially as it relates to maternal and infant mortality rates. Health disparities may influence whether a woman of color lives or dies during pregnancy or birth, especially if the conditions or situations are not addressed right away. Bass United focuses on the importance of relationships between healthcare providers and women, helping them to understand each other and to communicate better with one another. Doing so empowers women to have a say in their pregnancy and birth. Studies have shown if the relationships in healthcare are not open and positive, due to implicit bias, discrimination, abuse, or neglect, women will not return for continued care. It creates a situation called “lack of access” to healthcare which can be a major barrier negatively impacting short and long-term health with the potential of maternal death for women and babies. We plan to improve these relationships, being guided by the Indigenous Worldview which is all about humanity, relationships, beauty, and love. Believe it or not, our relationships with the land, the sky, the animals, and plants also impact our health so they are important too, especially for Mothers and babies. The principles of Indigenous knowledge can benefit all of humanity! What better way is there to live our lives, than being and staying healthy, loving each other and our children, and always walking in beauty? We ask for our community to help. Even small contributions will work toward achieving our goals because if every member of this community gives, it creates a huge impact over time. As a member of this community, I ask that you please help because we depend on you. We welcome you to click on the picture below, learn more about what we are doing, and donate… https://lnkd.in/ewvTxG5X

Are you heading to ViVE in a couple weeks? Our Managing Director Elizabeth Bailey will moderating the panel: Standing Up for Women’s Health Don't miss the chance to hear from Carolyn Witte, Co-Founder and CEO of Tia, Christine Henningsgaard, Co-Founder and CEO of Quilted Health, Kelli Tice, MD, VP of Medical Affairs & Chief Health Equity Officer of GuideWell and Dr. Neel Shah Chief Medical Officer of Maven Clinic. Panel Description: "The state of women's health in a post-Roe era has been marked by clinic closures, uncertainties in access, and further abortion restrictions. With a focus on addressing maternal health deserts and amping up the research into women-specific health issues, new models such as membership clinics, virtual care and the increasing role of doulas and midwives are proving that health innovators will not sit back and accept the status quo. Despite the urgent need, establishing more modern women's health models in states with opposing ideals will be a continued challenge for founders in a politically charged 2024. Noteworthy initiatives, such as the White House's commitment to addressing the underfunding of women's health research, give us hope for the future, but the alarming statistics, including the closure of over 200 rural hospitals delivering nearly 1 in 10 babies in the U.S, underscore the urgency of finding sustainable solutions for underserved women. To life, liberty and the pursuit of equitable and accessible women's healthcare." See you there! #vive2024 #vive #healthcare #womenshealth

CEO,Founder Chosen Outreach Ministries, Faith Organizer, Minister of Music, Adjunct Instructor, Author, 501c3 Non Profit Organization, Song Writer, Musician,
Women of color, particularly Black and Indigenous women, face significant health disparities compared to their white counterparts. Some of these disparities are: Maternal mortality —Black women are 2.5 times more likely to die from pregnancy related complications than white women. Chronic diseases —Black and Hispanic women have higher rates of diabetes, heart disease, and obesity than white women. Mental illness —Black and Hispanic women are less likely to receive mental health services and treatment. To address these disparities, it's important to prioritize healthcare for women of color, particularly those who are pregnant or have chronic conditions. This can include increasing access to affordable healthcare, investing in preventive care, and addressing systemic racism and social inequities. It's also important to ensure that healthcare providers receive cultural competency training and that there is diversity in the healthcare workforce. We invite you to please fill out this survey, so your voices will be heard. We are connecting with the Healthy Voices Campaign and Policy Matters to not just talk about change but to actually but get the ball rolling so we can make the changes needed with those that made the laws. Please take a few minutes to fill out this survey. PleSe share with your daughters, neighbors and friends. https://lnkd.in/gbG_G_22

Taboo-breaking Creative Director I Cartoonist | Creator @Vanillacooldance | Cannes Lions Speaker & See it Be it 2024 Driving Positive Change Through Disruptive Campaigns and Cartoons
For the first time ever, the CDC is pushing for pain management for IUD insertion. This is a major victory for women's health and speaks to the power of our voices. As a woman (especially as a woman due for her new IUD) I’m excited to see this progress, but I'm also tired of being gaslit by the medical world. Who are you to know our pain? I’m blown away by the vulnerability and bravery of the women who filmed and shared their painful and sometimes traumatic IUD insertions to spark change in the medical world. And beyond that this also offers valuable lessons for organizations on a mission: 💪 Rally Your Community: Imagine what you can achieve when you mobilize your audience around a cause. 📣 Amplify Individual Voices: Leverage social media to elevate personal stories that challenge established norms and demand accountability. 💡 Use a top-down AND bottom-up approach: It’s not just about one or the other. They work together. Organizations, governments, and the people in power have the resources and influence to make change. But why would they change the status quo, if they don't hear the collective voices demanding it? And to everyone out there making noise—keep going. Your voices make a difference. https://lnkd.in/eyDJVZNT #womenshealth #healthcare #iud #painmanagement #womensempowerment #patientrights #bodysovereignty #healthcareaccess #gynecology #impact #creative #socialchange #advocacy #changemakers #creativity #socialmedia #socialactivism #impactspace
