Arm yourself with specific knowledge, accountability, and leverage. Specific knowledge is knowledge you cannot be trained for.If society can train you, it can train someone else and replace you. When specific knowledge is taught, it's through apprenticeships, not schools. Specific knowledge is often highly technical or creative. If you don't have clarity on your future, go chase that. That is more important than anything else in your 20s. Go explore the real world: take a job, do an apprenticeship, travel, try everything you can and figure what out what your values are. Mitchell Earl explains:

Preparing for an apprenticeship is just as important as doing the apprenticeship itself. Maths and English functional skills level 2 are a requirement for all apprenticeships, with some exceptions, but there can be many reasons why an individual doesn't have their qualifications: - hated maths and school and disengaged - left school many moons ago and have lost certificates - have an overseas qualification which doesn't carry UK equivalence - has identified a learning difficulty in adulthood but doesn't have a formal diagnosis - any many other reasons in-between There is support available and my advice to staff in your teams is to get started early, even if they're unsure about starting an apprenticeship. If they're putting it off, please explore why this might be. I have enough examples of people that have walked their shoes, who are willing to share their personal experiences!
