Exciting news! My academic paper, "Reimagining Theological Education: Online Theological Education in the Hong Kong Diaspora," has been published in the Journal of Practical Theology. The paper delves into how structured theological reflection methods can revolutionize theological education, especially for diaspora communities grappling with intricate cultural and spiritual identities. By merging academic theology with contemporary spiritual formation on innovative online platforms, the study upholds intellectual rigor while fostering a deeper understanding of theonomy and theological reflection frameworks proposed by Gerhardt and Lynch. For those interested in the intersection of academia and spirituality, the full article is available at: https://lnkd.in/gze2yWgZ #TheologicalEducation #OnlineLearning #PracticalTheology #DiasporaStudies #SpiritualFormation #AcademicResearch #HigherEducation

On 8th-9th April 2025, London School of Theology will be hosting our annual research conference, with this year's theme: "Spiritual and Pastoral Abuse: Issues in Theology and Practice." The concept of Spiritual or Pastoral Abuse was developed by various North American writers in the 1990s and has since been developed academically by Lisa Oakley and others to describe forms of coercion and bullying in specifically religious contexts. This conference will examine these issues while seeking to advance understanding of Spiritual or Pastoral Abuse within Evangelical-Charismatic, broader Christian and other faith settings. This is a scholarly conference that will feature papers from academics and postgraduate research students specialising in the theology, psychology and therapeutic understanding of Spiritual and Pastoral Abuse. Within this scholarly context, it will focus on approaches to practical support and rehabilitation for victims and survivors, as well as on key concepts, definitions, and taxonomies. 📌 To find out more and book your place, please visit: www.lst.ac.uk/research25 #christianconference #researchconference #christianacademics #christianacademia #practicaltheology #researchinpractice #safeguarding #safeguardingissues

In this module, you are introduced to ‘intercultural theology’. In this discipline, we study and reflect upon ‘conversations’ between Christians from different contexts and continents. What does it mean to be Christian in various cultures and contexts? What are possibilities and pitfalls of intercultural communication and intercultural theological reflection? Paul writes, that together with ‘all the saints’ we can ‘grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ’ (Eph. 3: 16-19). Grebel's Master of Theological Studies program is careful to include Indigenous perspectives in the curriculum. This is part of the College’s commitment to following Call to Action #60 of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission that addresses theological schools and “the need to respect Indigenous spirituality in its own right.” In particular, courses like TS 732 - “Theologies of the Global South,” and TS 733 - “Indigenous Theologies and Methods” explore Indigenous theologies with attention to experience, history, the nature of the spiritual, key figures, and important themes. MTS students who have taken these courses reflected on some of their key learnings. Read more about the importance of Indigenous voices in Theological Studies:

What is the Pontifical Gregorian University? St. Ignatius of Loyola founded the university back in 1551. It is the birthplace of what Americans recognize as a Jesuit education. It educations priests, religious and lay men and women who go on to be leaders in the Church and serve their communities when they return after their studies. Through the years, the Gregorian has strived to stay connected with its past as the Roman College and is strongly rooted in Ignatian spirituality. The university’s aim is broad enough to encapsulate the needs of the whole Church and is today the largest center for the training of Church leadership and ministry and a world center of scholarship and research. While there are many religious men and women who attend the Gregorian university, twenty percent of university attendance is by lay men and women. Academic programs include theology, canon law, philosophy, history and cultural heritage of the church, as well as missiology, and social sciences, interreligious dialogue, Jewish-Christian relations, leadership and management, and institutes of psychology, anthropology and spirituality. The hallmarks of a Jesuit education include: the social sense of a faith that works for peace, truth and justice; dialogue with the world of culture and science; the promotion of Christian unity and interreligious dialogue; the value and dignity of each person and of creation itself.

From the author: “I have sometimes wondered whether religious colleges will become repositories for areas of humanistic study in terminal decline across the broader educational landscape.” For many reasons, Christian schools are uniquely situated to form a love for art and literature, leading to the formation of virtues that are both good for a person internal and for their relationship to society. While Christian colleges produce graduates who excell in their careers, they are not primarily factories for filling jobs. Their mission of making people better means it’s more than than stripping down everything for career preparedness. It seems likely that as more and more large schools shun the arts, humanities will find survival in Christian liberal arts colleges which recognize—as has been the dominant view of education for 3,000 years—that literature, art, and history are good for the soul! We need humanities to be better humans and to be better able to interact with God’s world. #ChristianHigherEducation #ChristianHigherEd #ChristianUniversity #Humanities
Opinion: Will religious colleges will become repositories for areas of humanistic study in terminal decline across the the broader educational landscape? A look at a letter from Pope Francis and his fears that students are losing the capacity for deep reading.

I'm excited to share a new publication co-authored with Carlos Rey on the purpose of Catholic universities. 📚✨ Full article: The Catholic university’s integral purpose: A multi-dimensional perspective This work explores how frameworks on inside-out and outside-in corporate purpose can be applied to a unique type of institution—hybrid organizations that blend diverse logics, including religious, community, and professional. In the context of Catholic institutions, we dive into how aligning their purpose with Catholic beliefs and identity can enhance their mission. The paper highlights the importance of fostering intellectual inquiry, moral formation, and meaningful engagement with societal challenges, by bringing to bear its unique spiritual and cultural resources. 🌍🤝 We hope this piece sparks further dialogue on the role of Catholic universities in shaping not just knowledge, but also values that drive positive change in society. Would love to hear your thoughts and reflections! 🗣️👇 hashtag #CatholicUniversities hashtag #CorporatePurpose hashtag #HybridOrganizations hashtag #HigherEducation hashtag #MoralLeadership hashtag #IntellectualInquiry @cccpusc
