"Intersectional Environmentalism is an inclusive approach to environmentalism that advocates for the protection of both people and the planet. IE argues that social and environmental justice are intertwined and that environmental advocacy that disregards this connection is harmful and incomplete. Intersectional Environmentalism focuses on achieving climate justice, amplifying historically excluded voices, and approaching environmental education, policy, and activism with equity, inclusion, and restorative justice in mind." 👏🏻💚💚💚 - from the book Intersectional Environmentalism by Leah Thomas. A must read for all environmentalists.

In 2022, the United Nations declared that access to a safe and healthy environment, free of pollutants and toxic waste, is a universal human right. The resolution provides a legal foundation for international challenges to environmental injustice; it should also provide an impetus for nations like the US to enforce their own environmental protections. Read mine and Andre M. Perry recent Op Ed in Bloomberg News explaining why the US needs human rights principles to combat pollution disparities in places like "Cancer Alley", Louisiana, where residents have been fighting these battles for decades. #environmentaljustice The Brookings Institution #epa #civilrights https://lnkd.in/ewJPrC8k
