This is so relevant as we look at stimulating a high growth economy in the U.K. Unlocking global investment and ensure we balance a sustainable economy with community benefit. Great work by South East Consortium and UK Business Council for Sustainable Development. Homes play a critical role to a truly sustainable enviro-economic growth agenda. The recent NPPF consultation at last seeks to balance the need for quality homes, sustainable infrastructure and employment, that supports communities, our regions and our global opportunities on the world stage. This is what our history, diversity and innovation as a nation is built on. We need to know it’s a long term funded retrofit programme.” Heather Evans, RLB National Head of Sustainability. Introducing #Regenerative #Decarbonisation in the build-to-rent sector. Great to see this #ambition in Australia for "delivering a trifecta of enhanced experience for residents, #futureproofed returns for #investors, and a strong #sustainability #performance". The idea is based on a comprehensive whitepaper: Tomorrow's Too Late (Presenting the case for Regenerative Decarbonisation in build to rent developments in Australia; the frameworks for it to be achieved, and the arguments for why we have no time to waste.) https://lnkd.in/giPcqT_J Worth a look for those interested how to achieve win-win-win outcomes in the way we solve the housing challenges in Aotearoa. https://lnkd.in/gj5HXS_V

Inspired by this morning’s sessions at the Transform 2024 Green Building Council of Australia conference in Sydney - which had strong themes around social impact & social value, alongside interconnectedness with nature & country. Lots of great insights including on resilience from Costa Rica, equitable housing outcomes from Vienna and centring first-nations led design. Among what I’ve taken away to contemplate especially were 3 specific themes: 🌳1. connecting with natural & custodian knowledge as an inclusive and dynamic concept for better built environments I liked especially that it was described how there is “latent knowledge that lies beneath the concrete of our cities” Also that all people have a yearning for connection to country. 👥2. taking an inter-generational view to maximise social value Vienna for example takes a long-term approach to public housing investment and programs with the expectation of intergenerational benefits for people & families 💙 3. building in “caring” for people & the environment #socialimpact #socialvalue #infrastructure
