Are you a parent/caregiver with chaotic school mornings? We have designed a "Kid's Checklist for a Great School Day" to help your child(ren) get organized. ✅ The checklist includes tasks for after school, before bed, and in the morning. It also features tasks that are specific to walking and wheeling to school, such as dressing for the weather, bringing a lock, and comfortably packing their backpack. Check out our checklist and many other resources in our "Inspire Active Journeys to School" toolkit 👇 https://lnkd.in/ggmDNtH2

📚 Teaching Strategies for Home: For Children That Wander 📚 Wandering can be a challenge, but these strategies can help manage and reduce it: 1️⃣ Monitor your child frequently and ensure they have plenty of outside time. 2️⃣ Give praise throughout the day for various successes, especially when your child doesn’t elope/wander. 3️⃣ Work on requesting to go outside. 4️⃣ Practice responding to “stop” and reinforce it with praise and fun activities. Implementing these strategies can make a significant difference in keeping your child safe and secure. #ChildSafety #WanderingPrevention #AutismAwareness #ParentingTips #ProudMomentsABA #WhatAProudMoment

What is a ‘normal’ childhood? Does it exist? In our training, we explore various ideas about childhood, including societal expectations of children. We also reflect on whether the migration of unaccompanied children supports or challenges our ideas about childhood. Finding the right school for your child is enough of a minefield, but what if you don’t think their school is doing enough for them? Time and time again, we come across parents at their wits’ end, unable to pinpoint why their child is struggling – and if you suspect your child might benefit from specialist SEND support, it can be difficult to know when and how to seek help. Our SEND expert Silja Turville explains the key markers to look out for, and suggests how parents can come up with a plan to ensure their son or daughter gets the best possible help, both inside and outside the classroom: https://bit.ly/3U4ddus

Empowered children are resilient children. Teach your children how to escape on their own in case you cannot help them. ✅ They must use the stairs to escape, not the elevator, if you live in an apartment. ✅ Teach them to feel the door before escaping. ✅ If the door feels cool, unlock the door and check outside. ✅ Practice using the exit stairs. And make your kids partners in your family's emergency response planning. Let them have a voice in what goes into the Go-Bag and the correct use of the products/equipment contained therein. https://www.ready.gov/kids

Here's another tip for moving during the school year: Keep one or two boxes specifically for your children's back-to-school supplies. 📦✏️Moving and back to school can be plenty stressful as it is, so by separating these items from the rest of the mix you may find it easier once the first day of school rolls around. 🏫 #BackToSchool #SchoolSupplies #MovingTips

6moThis is such a psychologically-sound tool. I love seeing research being applied like this! You've clearly carefully identified the specific habits that need changing to facilitate active school travel (checking the weather, preparing items ahead of time, being ready to go on time in the morning, having the necessary nutrition and energy) and you've created a visual, appealing tool to gamify and track the creation of these key habits. Way to go!! I think it's easy to look and say "oh no not another checklist" but, as a parent myself, this is exactly the type of tool that I could easily implement at home. All I have to do is click print!
