Introducing: So, What Do You Do? Having reflected on my 93 posts to over 800 subscribers in the last 2 years I knew there was a better way to explain what I've been writing about. So, here it is... Going forward the newsletter will be about how individuals with many interests (“multipotentialites”) earn through more than one income stream (“portfolio work”), while navigating careers without obvious progression pathways (“squiggly careers”). It will combine my own personal experience as Founder of the Undefinable Community and Founders Associate at The Portfolio Collective with 1-2-1 interviews with individuals who live and breathe this new model of careers. I'll be publishing at least fortnightly, where I will share interviews, principles and diaries to every single subscriber, completely for free. Comments on. No paywall. Just you, me and a 800+ other people trying to learning everything we can from "multi-portfolio-squigglies" (pending a better name) to better answer a question most people expect a one word reply to. It's gonna be great. Read more: https://lnkd.in/ecqs9TB2 #newsletter #multipotentialite #portfoliowork

🐥Why many autistic empaths suffer with chronic anxiety. https://lnkd.in/gwqZWZ5M ☺️Jaime has written a fabulous article on how autistics have chronic anxiety that becomes overwhelming. This arises from our hyper-empathy that overwhelms the lack of sensory filtration. It also includes rejection sensitivity dysphoria that can sometimes result in suicidal ideation. 🧠Alexithymia may be a means of protecting the mind. The massive input of empathic information may cause extreme overwhelm causing meltdowns and dissociation. Unfortunately, the anxiety is still held in the body, often unprocessed and resulting in multiple psychosomatic conditions. 🏃🏿♂️Vigorous exercise and shaking may help to release that energy and process it, as well as other methods that Jaime suggests. 💪This empathic strength is also associated with dynamic pattern recognition that results in prediction, creative innovation, and problem solving, when channeled appropriately. Unfortunately, it is also our Achilles Heel that leads us to masking in order to protect ourselves. 🌈Throughout history, those with special talents have been tormented, bullied, and even executed by those who worship the shrine of mediocrity. We must channel our energy from anxiety into a passionate drive for justice for autistics and other intersectional people. 🏳️🌈We will always feel anxious. It is uncomfortable, but from discomfort we shall use our energy to fight for neurodivergent social justice. #autism

Since we now know that much of LinkedIn’s jobs section is fake, that should help calm our anxiety at not getting called back, right? https://lnkd.in/gwqZWZ5M

Do this 👇🏾 to be in the top 1% of job seekers. Start sharing your point of view and expertise on this platform. If you don't do this already you are missing out on the hidden job market. And in this crowded market, it's helpful to do the things fewer people are doing to stand out. One time I wrote a post that got the attention of a WSJ reporter and I was quoted in an article. Right after the New York Times reached out to interview me as well. That is the power of sharing your expertise in public. I had been sharing content daily for several years before that happened, but I was seen as an expert because of my consistent content. You don't have to get quoted in a major publication to get the benefits of sharing your point of view, but engage more to become more visible. When more people know what you know, jobs will start coming to you and you will level up faster. If you are hesitant about creating content (I've been there), start small: -- Comment on other people's content. -- Re-share posts with your own commentary. -- Start by doing it a week to build the habit. Or just start posting your own stuff in small steps. Stick to 1-2 major topics so your brand becomes consistent. Your voice is valuable. Join the 1% of people creating content here. ____________ Enjoy this post? You might like my newsletter where I share more job search tips. Join below.

“In order to carry a positive action, we must develop here a positive vision” Ghosting. Number of applicants. Salaries too low. LinkedIn is a place to network, vent, ask for help. But it can become an echo chamber of rubbish news. And hands up, I can be a contributor to that sometimes. But there has to be some good news too. For me: The bad: 👻 Getting ghosted too after one of my clients interviewed my candidate, who they said they loved. Then nothing. 😵💫 Feeling like I can’t keep up with my inbox. ❓Spending every day questioning how can I get more new business. Is it me? Is it the market? The good: 🚶♀️HR Walk and Talk - this has been so well received. I can’t wait for next Wednesday. 📧 The nicest Google review - someone taking the time of day to leave us a review really makes my day AND helps us to get more business too. 🧘♀️ Back to exercising this week after way too many wines and crisps this last week. It has the best impact on me. What’s the best thing that’s happened to you this week? Or someone/something you are grateful for?

Don't get hung up on your follower numbers. When I started working for myself in 2020 I think I had about 2500 of you as connections. Maybe less. Or fewer. And that was largely because I'd spent my career in recruitment, connecting left right and centre (that's how I know my way around a decent CV). You might start your online business with 13 connections. Here's a tip: Put stuff out into the world. Just because "only" 13 people might see it, you're still helping 13 people. I started a business writing CVs and the people that became my earliest clients were mostly former colleagues and candidates. As my followership has grown, I've had the pleasure of serving people all over the world thanks to your likes, reposts, referrals, and brilliant comments. I've not grown my audience to 70k like some have, and comparison is the thief of joy and all that - but I am a gnat's chuff away from 7k. 13 followers away. And it feels a bit landmarky. The number for number's sake isn't important, but I do know the more people that slowly join and grow my network, the more eyes see my content. And my content is mostly aimed at helping people live better lives and have more fulfilling careers. So if you want to do something nice, repost this post. The more people that follow me, the more people I can help. Yes, my business may grow as a result too. And that's OK, yeah? 13 more people are counting on it.

I think it is very counterproductive and detracts from the usefulness of this platform, when job search and service pages are paywalled behind LinkedIn Premium. The reason we're searching and/or offering our services is because we need money, pure and simple. Asking for $70/mo to view/apply to job listings and see/respond to service requests is heartless and asking for too much from the very people this platform is designed to serve. Do better.

Are you tired of scrolling through LinkedIn posts that offer no value to job seekers? You're not alone. Many posts lack context and actionable takeaways, leaving readers with nothing to show for their time. As a former job seeker, I understand how frustrating it can be to see writers with "Top Voices" badges who don't provide valuable insights. We all deserve high-quality content that helps us navigate the job market, not just empty posts with fancy badges. Let's demand better and hold ourselves accountable for providing valuable insights to our professional community. After all, LinkedIn is a platform for professionals to connect and learn from one another. By the way, have you ever wondered what a "Top Voice" is? It's a badge awarded to LinkedIn members who create and share high-quality content on the platform. While this is a great achievement, it DOES NOT necessarily mean that their content is always valuable to job seekers. Let's focus on creating content that truly helps our community instead of just chasing after accolades. Together, we can make LinkedIn a more valuable resource for job seekers everywhere. As someone who believes in providing value to our community, I vote for a Top Contributor badge. Let's prioritize creating content that helps job seekers and contributes to the growth of our professional network.
