While 2024 was the year when half the global population went to the polls in elections, #2025 is the year when we will see many of those new (and some not so new) global leaders on the world stage. Michael Smets, Professor of Management and #leadership expert thinks 2025 will be a significant year when it comes to how we think about leadership. And he will be watching carefully to see who they surround themselves with and how they navigate their domestic and global challenges in the year ahead. 2024 has been a year of elections, some of the well-recognized democracies of the world including India, USA, UK & France participate in the process of electing their leaders. This makes me wonder if the qualities of the leaders who lead us should be tried and tested before they are given a great deal of power and authority. Contrasting this with corporate governance and business leadership would throw up quite a few interesting propositions. Can the employees elect their leaders? How many leaders holding on to their positions in the corporate world can stand the test of an election scrutiny? Just a few off the beat raw thoughts while wondering about how many businesses under tremendous stress, completely owing to the lack of inspirational leadership. #leadership #people #corproate #businessleaders #uspresidentialelections

In the wake of local and European elections, I was inspired to write about my experiences of bringing new and existing leadership teams together. In the words of Eamonn Devalera "The old and the new must be merged. The old must be preserved, but the new must be allowed to grow. The old must be respected, but the new must be given a chance to develop." This sentiment is particularly relevant in the context of integrating new leaders into established teams, where the old and the new must come together to create a cohesive and effective working environment. The stark reality is that a percentage of your team is happy, a percentage is distraught, and some are truly indifferent about the outcome of the US Presidential election. I hope you made space today for yourself and your needs and then found a way to make space for your team members if they needed it. I have a confession to make, and you might not like it: I don’t care about political elections. Now it's out. I have never voted in my life for several reasons, but the most important one is probably: I don’t wait around for an elected leader before I take action. Ultimately, we have no say in what happens. We have to accept the decisions of others and adapt. That's why I don't argue about who’s the better choice or follow the PR machine around it. I pursue my interests, my family's, and my company's, adjusting as needed along the way. This mindset makes me responsible for my own life, not dependent on others' decisions.
