Recently, within my course at Pitt Law, "Introduction to American Law," I delivered a presentation about American and Ukrainian merger control regimes. Personally, I find merger control to be the least exciting aspect of antitrust (cartel and abuse of dominance investigations are more my cup of tea🤓). Nevertheless, I consider this area to be crucial for international lawyers practicing in Corporate and M&A. I believe that Ukraine will soon attract significant investments like never before. And one of the initial tasks for a legal counsel representing an investor would be to research the Ukrainian merger control regime – i.e., whether the investor must notify the transaction to the Ukrainian antitrust agency. I was pleased to hear from some of my classmates that antitrust law can be genuinely interesting. Many lawyers, like them, didn't study antitrust law in law school and missed the opportunity to discover how intellectually demanding and, thus, captivating this area of law can be. I can only imagine their reaction if I chose to deliver the presentation about cartels or abuse of dominance cases😌 P.S. It's important to do what you love. When I was preparing the presentation, I felt genuine joy.
