[Unilever Future Leaders' League 2024] Being selected as a Top 30 Finalist for the Unilever Future Leaders' League was an incredible honor. The program pushed me to new heights, both personally and professionally. Marketing case studies were new to me. As a finalist, I dove into complex challenges with a diverse group. Navigating our differences and learning to communicate effectively was a challenge. It demanded collaboration, creativity, and compromise to tackle marketing complexities together. Of course, this experience wouldn't have been the same without my amazing teammates, Atsalabi Dimas Fadillah and Larisa S. As the only 3rd year student in the team, the learnings I gained from them are invaluable. While we may not have clinched first place, for me, the real win lies in the connections I made and the irreplaceable knowledge and new skills I gained, both from the facilitators and the 29 incredible finalists. Also, the judges' feedback for me and my team was like a toolbox full of new skills, helping me refine my public speaking, analytical thinking, and teamwork skills. Huge thanks to Unilever for creating this amazing platform that pushed me out of my comfort zone and opened new doors. Honestly, when I first saw the UFLL application, a part of me hesitated. Did I have what it takes? But the "what if?" won, and it was the best decision ever. Little did I know, this program would transform me from a curious learner to a passionate leader. To anyone considering applying next year, take it from me, don't let self-doubt hold you back. This is an experience you won't regret! #UFLL2024 #Unilever #KamiUnilever

The Clorox Company Chair & CEO, Linda Rendle, recently joined Dean Bill Boulding at my alma mater Duke University - The Fuqua School of Business for the Distinguished Speaker Series. In a fireside-chat-style conversation, Linda shared what it's been like leading the company through the highs and lows of a global pandemic when our products were essential goods and through a crippling cyberattack. Linda shared what it means to balance driving short-term results while keeping long-term goals in view and some of the best advice she's received. Here are my top 5 takeaways from the chat: Do the Right Thing - this 20+ year old The Clorox Company value continues to drive decisions and underpins our on-going commitment to our ESG goals. Every project won't payout but looking in aggregate at decisions for the long-term is how we keep making progress and continue to rank in the top of many 'most sustainable company' lists. Listen to Your Own Voice - being CEO isn't for everyone and it's taken sacrifice. It's impossible to have it all so focus on what matters (to you, especially). Most Decisions have Two-Way Doors - very few decisions are permanent, so ask what's the worst thing that could happen if I say 'yes'? What's the worst thing that can happen if I say 'no'? Often, it's the untaken opportunities that yield the worst outcome and regret. You're a Person of Courage - a former CEO told Linda this when she was considering throwing her name into the hat for CEO, and it was words of encouragement she'd never considered before. Most people have far more courage than they ever imagined; it's about taking the first step. Be direct and be curious - some of the best work comes from disagreements, fast failure and asking 'why'. We're a 'nice' company on a path to becoming a 'kind' company - one that has honest conversations, gives direct feedback and wins together. Thank you to Linda for stopping by Fuqua during your recent trip to Durham, Stephen Windham for the invitation and the Clorox leaders and Fuqua alumni who attended. Photo credit: Sierra Moraven. A celebration and a moment of honesty: The celebration - I'm so enthused to be a part of the next Rural Leaders Kellogg Rural Leadership Programme in 2024! Engaging with change-makers from diverse backgrounds always kicks me into a higher gear, and I'm excited to see a) what I can learn and b) the value I can offer through this journey. The honesty - The public sector has been in a semi- hiring freeze since October last year, and the private sector is pretty quiet too. I finished up a secondment in a fulfilling & challenging role, including a parliamentary stint, at the same time, so it has been a frustration seeking new roles since then. Compounded with public sector layoffs (unaffected, and mindful of the impact of these decisions on colleagues), it's very easy to fall suspect to comparison or feel like I'm falling behind, and a general state of dissatisfaction. I have an unfailing belief in 1) my ability to change the world for the better, and 2) the genuine desire of most people to do the same, so I'm channelling that frustration into the avenues I do have control over. These include: → exciting projects in the red meat and wild game spaces with Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) → championing the microabattoir industry, and more broadly, food security / value over volume / diversification. → a foray into social media education with Agribite - breaking down reports and decisions in policy, science, and trade, into bite-size insights (find us on Linkedin, Instagram, and Tiktok). Learning as I go for how best to achieve this! → coaching and mentoring with those who reach out, particularly in the areas of career transition/growth, moving from science expert to people leader, and mental health/burnout. → conversations and catch-ups with a diverse array of individuals, special mentions to Grace McLeay, Chanelle O'Sullivan, and Iain Lees-Galloway for your refreshing perspectives in the last couple of weeks. My thoughts are with those going through difficult times professionally, financially, and otherwise. We're in a state of high global uncertainty and it can be a wearying process. Stay the course, continue to connect to your communities and networks, and let's see how we can shape the future. #agribusiness #primaryindustries #foodandfibre #veterinarian #foodsecurity

Wrapping up a week at Berkshire’s Leadership Conference in Dallas Texas. Feeling inspired and proud to work for a company that has an all women led Regional Vice President executive team. Also, we were just named top 30 out of 50 Multifamuly owners. Final take away @brenebrown Barrette’s elements of BRAVING: BOUNDARIES: Setting boundaries is making clear what’s okay and what’s not okay, and why. RELIABILITY: You do what you say you’ll do. At work, this means staying aware of your competencies and limitations so you don’t overpromise and are able to deliver on commitments and balance competing priorities. ACCOUNTABILITY: You own your mistakes, apologize, and make amends. VAULT: You don’t share information or experiences that are not yours to share. I need to know that my confidences are kept, and that you’re not sharing with me any information about other people that should be confidential. INTEGRITY: Choosing courage over comfort; choosing what’s right over what’s fun, fast, or easy; and practicing your values, not just professing them. NONJUDGMENT: I can ask for what I need, and you can ask for what you need. We can talk about how we feel without judgment. GENEROSITY: Extending the most generous interpretation to the intentions, words, and actions of others. The BRAVING Inventory can be used as a conversation guide that walks us through trust-building from a place of curiosity, learning, and connection.

So insightful to learn about Johannes Evenblij Garza's career journey. There's some really tangible advice here for anyone looking to advance their career (spoiler: focus on the learning!)
I had a great career journey conversation with David Wurth of C-Suite Media / CSQ - Voice of the C-Suite . From a determined 17-year-old working hard in Mexico for a university scholarship, learning the business ropes at Procter & Gamble, exploring regional nuances and adapting to local differences with PepsiCo in Latin America, to leading 12,000 people here in PBNA’s West Division - my journey is about being flexible and resilient. I hope it resonates with aspiring professionals looking to accelerate their careers. My gratitude to so many managers and friends who believed in me. Gratitude to Jerica Kingsbury for capturing this narrative. It's been an incredible ride! https://lnkd.in/gXs5vqiJ

This is a big week in my working world. It's my 1 year anniversary of working for Smurfit Kappa in L&D. I also start studying again, or as my folks say, gathering more letters after my name! (not that I've ever used them...but I could) So I've stocked up on pens and post-it's, let's get this CIPD Strategic People Management course started. 👍 #personaldevelopment #change #lifelonglearning

Check out Dwight’s journey!
Counting down our top blog posts of 2023. As the working year draws to a close for team Dandi, we're looking back at the most-read stories on our blog. Coming in at No. 5 -- Meet Dwight A. Phyall, PMP, perhaps the world’s only sommelier DEI leader. "Dwight had been serving underrepresented people, in one way or another, for most of his adult life. Recruited straight out of college as a scout for the Philadelphia Eagles, Dwight quit the mud and melee of the sports field to take a year out to volunteer with AmeriCorps. Unexpectedly, sports led him back to his true calling—DEI." Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/eSUqAD8V #dei #leadership
