These Lake Drive Homes in Dorset are a work in progress project by the British architect Richard Brown, BrownUrbanism. Contrast is the key factor in their design with rough textured cast in-situ concrete and a carefully folded and tailored standing seam jacket in GreenCoat® color coated steel from SSAB. The two identical houses seek to extend the concept of the open plan, split-level suburban home. A theme based on complex arrangements of roof forms found in the typical suburban typology - mono pitches, gables and hip roofs with a variety of barge and verge details. The houses are being built with high insulation values, natural stack ventilation, standing seam embedded solar panels and heat pumps. The steel shell from GreenCoat® contributes with a coating using Swedish rapeseed oil. Sampling has been an integral part of the detailed design for the lower walls’ exposed concrete and the steel cladding of the upper timber frame. The GreenCoat® color coated steel will be supplied by Metal Solutions Ltd and installed by EBM ROOFING LIMITED. #architecture #steel #britisharchitecture #rapeseedoil

Knauf #BlueProjects: a building with an impressive design in Nicosia's Acropolis, which gave it its name: Acropolis Residences. The construction is made of reinforced concrete, with brick masonry. ✅ Knauf AQUAPANEL Outdoor 12,5mm cement board system was applied, to satisfy the architectural need with the external sloping decorative elements on the balconies, which was very difficult to support with the load-bearing brick masonry. ✅ Knauf THERMOPROSOPSIS Organic external thermal insulation system was applied. The application meets the required energy efficiency class A+. ✅ For the application of large tiles, Knauf Super Flex C2TE-S1 was chosen. The cement-based, high adhesion tile, with increased processing time-pasting, zero slip and increased elasticity. ✅ In the delivery of a perfect finished surface on the walls, Knauf 3rd Hand Plaster was ideal. Building Resilient Homes with Passive House, Part 1: Fire Resistant Materials Wildfires highlight the critical importance of choosing the right building materials. Passive House principles emphasize both safety and energy efficiency, making fire-resistant materials an essential element of resilient design. ⚫ Non-combustible Materials – Options like concrete, steel, and fiber cement siding for walls and roofs significantly enhance safety in fire-prone areas. ⚫ Fire-Rated Windows and Doors – Equipped with tempered glass, these features are designed to withstand extreme heat, offering added protection and peace of mind. ⚫ Intumescent Coatings – Special paints that expand when exposed to high temperatures, providing an extra layer of defense to shield the structure. How will long will it take to build a home using an insulated solid wall construction method like ICF? As with any property you will need to wait for planning permission on your design. Once you have approval and the foundations are laid to design specification, work can immediately start on the wall. To construct the walls, the ICF blocks quickly lock into place through a profiled edge and there is no need for a bedding material such as mortar. With ICF you typically need to build in stages (usually to first floor height) before pouring concrete in a central cavity. Once the concrete has set you continue with the next stage. The speed and simplicity of the system means it’s possible to complete the walls of a straightforward single storey building in as little as 3 days!! #ICF #ICFA #SpeedofBuild #SpeedOfContruction https://lnkd.in/dNHwV75

Why are bricks so useful for building? These are just some reasons: 🧱 Bricks are energy efficient because they hold sunlight throughout the day and release that energy after the sun goes down. 🧱 There are face bricks, common bricks, paving bricks, fire bricks, and refractory bricks – each designed for a specific purpose. 🧱 Bricks can withstand extreme temperature changes and are considered to be one of the most durable building products. 🧱 Bricks do not rot, dent, or need to be painted, so they are extremely low maintenance and long-lasting. #Brickwork #Bricks #Build #Architecture #Contractor #BrickworkContractor #Construction #Bricklayer #Bricklayers #ConstructionNorthWest #NorthWestConstruction

Waterproofing Challenges in High-Rise Buildings - Trisoul Technologies Structural Movement and Settling: High-rise buildings are subject to significant structural movement and settling over time, which can lead to cracks and gaps in the waterproofing membrane. This movement can be caused by various factors, including wind, seismic activity, and temperature variations, making it challenging to maintain an effective and continuous waterproof barrier. Pressure Differential and Wind-Driven Rain: The height of high-rise buildings creates unique challenges related to pressure differentials and wind-driven rain. As the building height increases, so does the wind pressure, which can drive rainwater into small openings and breaches in the waterproofing system, potentially causing water ingress and damage to the building’s structure and interior. Access and Maintenance Difficulties: The sheer height and scale of high-rise buildings make access for waterproofing installation and maintenance extremely challenging. Regular inspections and repairs are necessary to ensure the integrity of the waterproofing system, but accessing these areas safely and efficiently requires specialized equipment and trained personnel, often leading to higher costs and logistical complexities. ISOLINE LOW LINE transforms a new-build home with a leak-proof roofing solution. The challenge: This property, with plastic slate tiles installed at a 15-degree pitch, was facing persistent leaks. The goal was to maintain the modern look of the home while resolving the waterproofing issues and preventing further leaks. The solution: ISOLINE LOW LINE was the perfect fix. The existing tiles were carefully removed, and ISOLINE LOW LINE was installed over the original structure. The same roof tiles were then re-fitted on top, ensuring a fully waterproof system without compromising the home’s appearance. The result: A seamless refurbishment that not only eliminated leaks but also allowed the reuse of the original tiles—saving both time and the cost of new materials. If you’re planning a refurbishment or need a reliable waterproofing solution, contact us at 0207 727 0533 or email enquiries@onduline.net Contractor: Steadfast Roofing Products: ISOLINE LOW LINE #onduline #roofing #construction #buildingproducts #waterproofing #roofingcontractor #architect #architecture

Curious about the difference between normal and sub roof tiling? 🏠 Whereas normal tiling the tiles are the main waterproofing layer, sub-roof tiles are fixed below the tile or slate roof covering, acting as the primary waterproofing layer and providing an additional layer of protection. This design feature relegates roof tiles to a secondary line of defence, enabling the roof pitch to be much lower than the minimum recommended by tile manufacturers. ISOLINE LOW LINE, our innovative sub-roof system, not only takes any roof tile down to a 10 degree pitch, it is also installed under roof tiles, thus being shielded from elements such as wind and rain, making it an exceptional long-lasting waterproofing solution. Find out how ISOLINE LOW LINE can benefit your next project here: https://ow.ly/LtCt50S9AEq #onduline #buildingproducts #roofing #roofingcontractor #waterproofing #architect #construction #architecture
