Driving sustainability via insights, partnerships and funding

"My job is to move hearts" - that's what I told a community partner in our meeting to explore collaboration. Some people's job is to move needles, i.e. what they do has greater environmental impact, usually through implementing technology, equipment changes, or funding large scale infrastructure projects. My job is to move hearts. We support community projects that usually have smaller environmental benefits and can't really move the needle. We encourage ground-up initiatives and support individuals, non-profit organisations and grassroots with funding. We change mindsets, one at a time. It's slower but necessary. In the long run, moving hearts can lead to moving needles, when small initiatives and organisations scale up over time and achieve greater environmental impact. When moving hearts lead to more people taking action and shifting towards more sustainable practices, we are moving needles. Moving hearts or moving needles, we all play a part. What's your job?
